Monday we celebrated Memorial Day in what Marinda said was true American fashion - we decorated graves in the morning, bought stuff because of Memorial Day sales, and ate ribs on our patio to celebrate the fact that we have freedom!
We started off with Cosmic Kids yoga and french toast for breakfast, followed by our own flag ceremony. Then we went to get flowers to decorate graves. The kids were great this year and really got into finding graves with flags and putting down flowers. What was cool this year is that Luke knows how to read now, so he was able to read the names on the graves and see what branch in the military they served in. After decorating graves the kids wanted to sketch a bit. Luke drew some graves and wrote down the information from the gravestone on his paper. Jacy drew pinecones. Before heading out, we visited a display that had lots of old military stuff and even saw a WW2 fight plane flying overhead as part of the Memorial Day ceremony!
After decorating graves we decided to get some food to cook for dinner. And while we were there Marinda wanted to "take a look" at the patio furniture. Well, there was an amazing sale on home and garden stuff so we ended up buying a set and Amit (and Luke) put it together the rest of the day so we could eat dinner outside! We also got to take full advantage of the fact that we have a minivan now because Amit had to take out the bucket seats (and stow the back row) to fit the furniture stuff in.
On Thursday we had a ward party to celebrate the end of our ward's Book of Mormon challenge. The 'challenge' part was that the members and the missionaries were competing to see who could give out more copies of the Book of Mormon. The losers would get pied in the face. Thankfully, the members won - just barely! And for some reason, Marinda ended up being asked to pie the sisters in the face (our ward mission leader's wife took it upon herself to pie him in the face). As you can see, Marinda didn't hold back, even though Jacy was watching, confused about why her mother was getting the missionaries all messy.

Another noteworthy thing about the party is that we almost lost Luke. He was playing hide and seek with some other kids and he hid himself really, really well. About half the ward was going around the building looking for him and calling for him, and eventually we found him hiding behind a stack of chairs in one of the classrooms. We looked for a good 15-20 minutes though at started getting really concerned about where he was. Thankfully everyone is okay!
