False Alarms (Part 1?)

This week has been a bit of a whirlwind! The fun started Thursday when Marinda had an ultrasound just to make sure Asher was growing right. Everything on the ultrasound looked good - Asher looks like a perfectly healthy little baby! There was just one problem (for Marinda) - they said Asher already weighed over 7 pounds, with over 4 weeks to go! Marinda is not planning on delivering a 10 pound baby, so she declared that she is not going full term.

Later that night, Marinda tripped over her power cord and landed somewhat hard on her belly. This is obviously a problem for a pregnant lady. We thought her water might have partially broken because of it, but there were no other symptoms, so we decided (with some help from Stephanie to help calm Marinda down over the phone) it would be okay (and ideal for Amit's sleep) to not rush to the ER but to just wait until Marinda's appointment with her midwife the next morning. If anything was wrong, they could take care of it at the hospital. All she had to do was survive the next 12 hours...

And the next 11 1/2 hours went smoothly. Then, while driving to her appointment, the lane next to her got a green light. Thinking it was her green for a split second, she moved forward a couple feet before realizing "oh, that was the other lane's green, not mine. Good thing I stopped!" Unfortunately, the car behind her did not stop, and just went for it when they saw the green light. Thankfully, no one was hurt, other than a bruised forearm for the other driver. The airbag didn't deploy, which was great because it would have smashed Asher. Another driver who saw the accident came over the make sure everyone was okay, and even drove behind Marinda to her appointment to make sure everything would be okay. See, there are still good people in the world! And the lady in the other car felt horrible about the accident, and Marinda even texted her updates afterwards. They joked that the three of them would get together for coffee a month from now and laugh about how they first met.

Anyways, back to reality. Marinda had a stress test done to make sure everything was okay, and they even ran a test to see if her water broke. After a few grueling hours of waiting (at home) to see if we would be having this baby or not, the call came in, and it was negative.

So it'll be a bit longer until Asher is ready to make his grand entrance, but we're just so grateful that nothing bad happened with these two incidents. Oh, the car is in pretty bad shape - the bumper is shredded, the trunk is bent out of shape and won't closed (a rock and some rope is currently keeping it down), but the most important things are safe and sound. And is it bad we're partially hoping the car is totaled so we can get the money?

Oh, and happy Father's Day! The kids and Marinda gave Amit pancakes (because Luke really wanted to make pancakes), strawberries and Raisin Bran for breakfast in bed. Marinda woke up at 5 this morning to make pizza dough since Amit said he wanted homemade pizza for dinner. And to top it all off, there was a "surprise" Menchies cake! Since Marinda wasn't able to take the kids during the week to get a cake, they had to do it on Saturday. This was a problem though - between swim lessons, teaching a lesson with the missionaries, and Luke's friend's birthday party, there really wasn't a good time to ditch Amit. The initial plan was to go after swim lessons (which is right across from Menchies) and tell Amit that they were going to "run in and grab gyros for lunch really quick" (since the gyro place is right next to Menchies). Then, they would run and grab the cake from Menchies while Amit was waiting. Luke explicitly told Amit to "stay in the car and look at your phone." But Menchies didn't open until later! Jacy didn't quite understand the concept, and was really upset she wasn't getting a gyro OR Menchies. The new plan was to get gyros after the birthday party, but Amit was still there so they had to use the same plan. But again, Jacy didn't really get the concept, so as soon as they got back to the car she shouted "DADDY! WE GOT YOUR MENCHIES CAKE!" It was super-cute to see how hard Luke tried to make it a surprise...and how Jacy is way too young to get the concept :)

Other than Thursday and Friday, this week was show week at the kids gymnastics place! On Tuesday we got to see Jacy do her gymnastics routine! It started with individual entrances for each budding gymnast. Jacy and her friends did their opening routine together, and then it was time for the individual events. Jacy did a great job on her floor routine, the balance beam, and the uneven bars! And she was so happy to get her medal at the end!

Warm-ups!

This is a very Jacy picture. I'm not sure why she's making that face, but someone is not happy!

Luke's routine was the next day. His entrance was amazing - he did a backwards roll instead of a forward roll! His routines were great too. He actually did the balance beam all by himself after the show, which is a huge accomplishment! He was incredibly well-behaved too - normally, he's a little crazy during gymnastics. But for the show he went where he needed to go and did what he needed to do - but he was still our silly Luke too :) And at the end he got a medal too!

Luke's class all got medals too!

Our proud and happy gymnasts

This is Luke's post-show speciality!

They had a room for photos with props. Luke got really into the tropical spirit!

Jacy just wanted the guitar, and was a little confused when we told her it stayed at gymnastics and didn't come home with us

Other stories:
•During swim lessons the other day, Jacy grabbed one of the swimming dumbbell-shaped things and decided to go for a solo swim! Note that this is not what she's supposed to be doing at this age! She's just so excited to go out on her own that she can't wait to get permission!
•Apparently in school last week the boys and girls played basketball versus each other, and the girls won. Many of these girls are in Marinda's girl scout troop, so Luke generally equates the girls in his class with "Mommy's Daisy Troop." Luke was not happy about losing, which is something we're working on him with. So Amit suggested that maybe he could practice at basketball and get better. Luke's response was "No. I'm going to build robots to attack them!" So he built a robot out of legos. End of story, right? Nope. Luke then said "I'm going to build 1000 robots, and next time we play basketball, they're going to come out from underneath the floor and attack the girl scouts!" It looks like we have a budding evil genius on our hands. The engineers in us couldn't be more proud!
In this picture he looks like a sweet little boy who built a cool lego toy

And in this one he looks like his only joy in this life is world domination

•Marinda successfully survived her first year of being a girl scout troop leader! They had an end of the year potluck/bridging ceremony for one girl at a nearby park. Marinda got a lovely personalized girl scout leader bag from the troop. Marinda noted that Amit did not sing along with the troop and other families during the girl scout songs. He had some lame excuse like taking care of Luke and Jacy or something.
•Jacy's last real day of school was on Wednesday. We got to go visit her at school for playground time and circle time to hear them play and sing songs. Jacy had a great time blowing bubbles, and in particular blowing bubbles into one of the toy houses. For singing time, she really got into the itsy-bitsy spider song when they got to sing about the giant spider.
Jacy got really excited when the umbrella came out for one of their songs

Bubbles!

•On Friday, instead of having real school Jacy's school had the Bubble Man show up. He's basically a guy that has a bunch of weird things that can make bubbles and he does a bunch of silly stuff to make the kids laugh. The bubbles were great, but Jacy's favorite part (based on her telling us about it multiple times since then) was when the Bubble Man was holding an umbrella and had it fall on his head repeatedly. She didn't really like the mosh-pit aspect - we think she was a little too small to really enjoy it. But maybe next year!

•So Amit asks the kids about one happy thing and one sad thing every day. About a week ago Jacy started being overly dramatic about her sad thing going "WAAAA!!! I was sad WHEN. I. LOST. MY. ROCK!!!" Amit tried doing it back to Jacy, hoping that would help her realize how ridiculous it was. It didn't work. If anything, the drama has only increased. Sigh.
•Jacy now also demands band-aids or her piggy ice pack for everything. Bumped your head? Need a band-aid. Hurt your leg because you were dancing near your door instead of being in bed? Piggy ice pack. And band-aid. And not just any band-aids. They have to be her special band-aids, which are currently her Frozen ones (her "Let it Go" bandaids). She even uses them on her stuffed animals - good work Dr. Jacy!

•Funny side-note - any time she hears 'let it go" she asks why someone's talking about Frozen. We had a movie night to watch the Emperor's New Groove and Kronk said 'let it go' and she got really excited.
•Jacy took it upon herself to clean our playground because it was dirty. What a helpful girl!

•Luke was grumpy about...something...last night and really wanted another book for bed. So he apparently went to lie down by his bookshelf and read a book, and instead fell asleep.

•Luke had a couple good teaching moments this week. He was showing Jacy the ABC's with his lightsaber like he used to do and Jacy was trying to follow along. Then today for lunch he was helping her the pray over the food and even helped her with all the names we're supposed to pray for to help the missionaries!
