You know it's been a bit of a slow week when our highlight is "Luke got a haircut!" Well, sometimes in this crazy life slow weeks can be good too :)
So, Saturday was a once in a lifetime event - we got Luke's haircut! His hair is super short now, and he loves it! He really liked the part where his hair got styled, so now he wants to gel his hair every day. He also really liked having the hot towel on his neck and face to clean himself up.
Earlier this week, it was sunny, so Marinda forced the kids to go outside. Luke was not happy about this, even though there was chalk to color with, toys to play with, and oh, the play set. Anyways, Luke asked Marinda through the open window "how do you spell 'is'?" Marinda told him, and a few minutes later he had written "Mom is bad" on the sidewalk. Thankfully, the next day he changed it to a picture of him and Marinda going on a Mommy-Luke date. And how did Marinda feel about this? "I couldn't stop laughing! Honestly, I was thrilled. My FIVE YEAR OLD is WRITING! Not only that, but he's using writing to express his feelings in a healthy, non-distructive way! It's awesome!"
Luke is still loving art class. Here's his latest creation. He's getting so much better every week! Just look at the detail and the shading!
Jacy loves music, and almost every time Amit starts playing the piano she'll rush over and start playing with him or bring some other instruments to make music with him. The other day, she was playing her piano (a spot on the windowsill) while Amit was playing on the real piano. She asked Amit to play different types of songs, and every time he played she would pretend to play too!
Other stories:
•Luke and Jacy went to the doctor for a check up this week, and Luke (of course) brought Marshmallow. Luke was very concerned that the receptionists wouldn't know that Marshmallow wasn't a real puppy, since dogs shouldn't be in doctor's offices. He asked Marinda if he should go show them that Marshmallow had a tag, and that real dogs don't have tags, so that everyone knew he was a toy puppy.
*We have this astronaut magnet where the astronaut is hold his hands out to the side. Jacy noticed it this week and said "outer space is crucified!" We were confused at first, but then realized that she was saying the astronaut looked like Jesus on the cross. A little morbid, but I guess she's learning something from scripture videos and church?
•Tonight, Amit was telling Jacy about how she was his smart girl, and kind girl, etc., and also threw in that she's his dinosaur girl because she wore dinosaur PJs tonight. When Marinda went in the check on her, she (not knowing Amit did something similar) asked Jacy who her brave girl was, and Jacy smiled. Then she asked where her smart girl was, and Jacy smiled and laughed. Then Jacy said "and your dinosaur girl. RAWR!"
•Jacy got a new book this week, and in the book someone made a sign that had a picture of her little brother with a circle backslash symbol (meaning no little brother in the room). Luke thought it was funny, so he made a sign like that that meant "no mommy and daddy" and another one for "yes Jacy and Luke." And then he put it on our bedroom door! So silly! Hey, if he and Jacy want to take our bed, we'll take their beds if it means we can get to sleep in peace!
•Luke read his first real book tonight! It was "Inside, outside, upside down" He's ready other things like Bob books, and short books that are really geared for teaching reading, but this was the first time he just read a book outside a reading lesson and was able to more or less do it on his own!
•Luke also had a really great day in primary. He was asking questions and answering questions left and right. Getting the right answer was great, but we're just really happy that he had a happy day in primary and that something seems to be getting through.
•Lastly, we saw a pretty awesome rainbow this week! Things like this make the rain worth it!
