We have a baby name!

We've known we were having a boy for a couple months now, and finding the right name has been KILLING us. If we were having a girl, her name would be Asha (which means hope). But for a boy, we had nothing. Finally this past week we narrowed it down to three that we both at least kinda liked: Rohan, Asher, and Kanan. Rohan means 'ascending', Kanan is from the Bible and from Star Wars, and Asher is from the bible too. Then within 24 hours of each other, we each independently looked up the actual meaning of Asher (it means 'happy'). And we both knew this was the right name, although it was a stronger feeling for Marinda. It's almost like she currently has a stronger connection to baby Asher than Amit for some reason...

Then came the debate on the middle name. Marinda wanted 'Mitchell' and Amit...didn't. But in the end, neither of us got to decide. We told the kids the baby's name would be Asher, and Luke immediately said "so his name will be Asher Kumar Misra, because it's a pattern. All the boys in our family have Kumar as a middle name, and all the girls have May as their middle name." Who could argue with that logic?

Jacy wasn't quite as on board as Luke.  For the next several days whenever we refer to "Baby Asher" she would get majorly offended and practically yell "NO!  It's Baby PESO!!!"  She had named the baby that weeks ago, and didn't want to change.  Now she'll refer to baby as "Baby Asher", but for a while there it looked like we were going to have two names for this kid!

The kids (and let's be honest, Amit too) have been having fun coming up with fun nicknames for Asher. Asher just rhymes with so many fun things, like Asher Smasher, Asher Crasher, Asher Splasher, etc.

Now that we have a name, we decided to start getting his room ready. We're going to turn our guest room into Asher's room/the guest room. This means that most of the stuff we have in there just won't work anymore - we can't have a queen bed, a desk, and a crib in one room. So Luke and Jacy helped Amit take apart the bed, desk and office chair. Luke was a big help, and Jacy even got to use a real screwdriver for the first time!

Earlier that day we went to the Lynnwood rec center because they have a really cool water play area. The kids had a blast going down the slide, aiming water cannons at each other, and perhaps more than anything else, hanging out in the hot tub. Luke also showed off his amazing swimming skills. He can swim all the way across the pool by himself now! Afterwards we went to lunch at Cafe Rio. Luke had fun making a funny smile with his orange slice and Jacy was enjoying the chips.

Other than that, this week has been pretty chill. The kids were on spring break so they mostly hung out at home with Marinda. Luke and Liam had a sleepover on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Luke and Jacy stories:
•Luke made an awesome rainbow in his art class this week! He's loving it so far!

•Jacy's new favorite activity is water painting. She'll get a cup of water and a paintbrush and "paint" on the chalkboard.

•Luke was pretending that Marinda was the teacher, Jacy was her student, and that he was the teacher's son who came to school. And he made a math test for the student to do. He came up with this all by himself! For question 1, X out the rock that is bigger. For question 2, you add the numbers (6+6=?). For question 3: X out the rock that is the smaller one. For question 4, combine the two pieces and write out the letter. Jacy had a little bit of trouble with the test, but they both had fun.

•Amit was tired one night so the kids climbed on him. Shocker! This was after they kept singing the ABC song to "wake up daddy".

•In Luke's latest teeth adventure, a 6 year molar is coming in!  Which explains why he's chewing on this fingers again...  We thought we were done with teething!
•On the night we told the kids that the baby's name was Asher, Marinda was eating sushi for dinner because - um - the baby wanted sushi.  At least that's what we told the kids to explain why she was eating something different than everyone else.  Luke was excited by the sushi and ended up eating four of Marinda's pieces, then asked if he could talk to the baby.  Marinda said sure, so Luke put his face on Marinda's tummy and said "Guess what Asher?!  I like sushi too!"  AHHHH!  THE CUTENESS!!!
•Jacy kept saying she wanted to wear a "missionary dress" to church. We were really confused for a while, until we figured out that she was talking about dresses with sweaters that went with them. Apparently that's what missionaries wear in her mind!
•Luke has been wanting to know everything about the process of Asher being born, even things like what the umbilical cord looks like and what happens to it. He also said he wanted to ask the doctor for some medicine so he doesn't get sick when Asher comes like he did when Jacy comes. What a sweet boy!
