Birthday cakes and landspeeders

Happy new year! It's been a busy, Star Wars-filled 2018 so far. With baby keeping Marinda out of commission, we've been getting a ton of help from friends around us. Thank you friends!

On Monday, we celebrated New Years Day by going to the zoo (by we, we mean Amit and the kids) in the afternoon. We didn't have a lot of time so we only did the highlights. Which for the kids, seems to mean hitting their favorite play spots. You know, the rocks in the African savannah, the tunnels near the meerkats, and the boat by the penguins. We also saw some animals.

Luke took this picture of a zebra!

Penguins? Who wants to see those when there's a BOAT to play with?

The jaguar kept walking back and forth for some reason!

The other big event this week was Amit's birthday! We're going to do a proper celebration with dinner and whatnot once Marinda is feeling a bit better, but we still did some stuff. We don't normally do presents for our birthdays, but Luke decided to color in this awesome picture just for daddy!

We also got an cake. Luke had been talking about the cake for the entire week, and Amit had told him he wanted an ice cream cake. So on our way home from Marinda's IV fluid appointment, we stopped by Menchies. Luke kept complaining that he just wanted to go home and not pick out the cake, but we basically told him he didn't have a choice. It turns out he really wanted to finish his present (see above), but he was super-excited once we got to Menchies. He successfully picked out a chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream and oreos on top (Amit couldn't have been happier).

The last part of Amit's birthday party happened the next day, once the family room was clean enough to do the activity - hitting balloons with lightsabers in the dark! This video didn't turn out great (since all the lights were off and the blinds were closed) but you can see that the kids had a blast. And only one crying kid came out of this! Success!

The last big event of the week was that a late Christmas present arrived - a landspeeder for the kids from Amit's older brother! Luke was super-excited since he loves all things Star Wars. Jacy saw the box and said "is that a Star Wars!?!?" These cars have to charge overnight, so they had to wait all day to be able to drive it. Luke had Marinda call Amit at work and tell him to get home so he could drive it. Obviously, they loved it! Jacy's still learning to drive, but surely she'll get better now that she has a landspeeder to practice with.

One other funny Luke story is that Luke has been slipping into his Southern Accent. Yup, he has a southern accent for some reason. We took him to get a haircut and he was talking to the stylist saying things like "I just have a baby sister at home" in a southern drawl. Maybe this is something speech therapy will help with? One last thing to end with is a video of Jacy talking to...herself.
