It happened. Last Friday, out little boy became a man. Because there are few things in this life that signify a right of passage like getting your training wheels off.
We had been suspicious that he was ready for a while, but Luke kept insisting that he didn't want to do it. Then last Friday Marinda asked Luke if he wanted to take them off just to feel how it felt, but we would put them back on right away. Luke agreed, and we honestly thought it would just be a small step in the long process of getting them off.
BUT THEN IT HAPPENED! Marinda was pushing him a little from behind helping him balance - then let go!
AND HE WENT!
Marinda screamed, Amit was ecstatic, Jacy kind of noticed that something was happening, and everyone else at the park looked at us like we were crazy. But who cares. You should have seen Luke's smile, if it could have been harvested and condensed down were pretty sure it would cure cancer, it was that big and happy!
It wasn't all smooth, but the important thing is that he kept getting up and trying. GO LUKE!!!!!
Another awesome pieces of news is that we found out that Luke got into the Dual Language program for Kindergarten next year!!! That means he'll be in a class that is half native English speakers/half native Spanish speakers and that 90% of the instruction will be in spanish. Over the years it'll get to around 30% by third grade, but they plan is that he'll be fluent-ish by the time he gets to middle school. Now you don't need to know Spanish as a parents to have him be successful, but we're kind of involved parents - so I guess we're all going to learn Spanish now!
Lastly, it's the first weekend in April, so it is General Conference Weekend! WOOO!!! Marinda actually succeeded in making cinnamon rolls (which are oooohhhh so delicious and ooohhh so bad for you) and we had a fun time trying to hear what they were saying over the kids playing. At one point Amit asked Luke if he wanted to go take a bath, and Luke replied "I can't dad! I have to listen to what they are saying!" So something is sinking in... Good thing God gives us credit for trying!
Jacy & Luke Stories:
• These kids are crazy. We woke up one morning this week to these two goof balls playing in the bathtub, singing at the top of their lungs and dancing. It was hilarious!
Jacy Stories:
• Jacy is napping. Like, Marinda will say "time for a nap" and she'll willingly get into her bed and lay down and fall asleep. We're terrified. We don't know what happened and we're scared of spooking her back into craziness.
• Jacy has lots of feelings. At least that's what we call it when she starts melting down. (oh all the feelings!) She also does this thing where she squints her eyes, closes one completely and moves her jaw to the side while crying at you. It is the funniest face and we can't take her seriously when she makes it!
• Jacy wants to go to school, like all the time. Marinda can't take her early anymore to pick up Luke because she won't stay in the waiting room and play with toys, she'll sneak out and go into Luke's class!
• Jacy loves animals, and has her animal noises down pat. If you ask her what a cow says, she'll bust out that "moo" before you even know what hit you. So you can imagine her elation at finding DUCKS in our front yard this week!
• Lastly, Luke isn't the only one making waves in the transportation department. Jacy still is not really getting into her bike, but this scooter thing? Look out, here she comes!
Luke Stories:
• At gymnastics this week, Liam showed up with a container of left over cake from his dad's birthday. Luke was super excited and asked to hold the container (which was glass) on the ride home. Unfortunately, he dropped it on his way out the car and it shattered - along with all of our hopes and dreams and wills to live. Luckily Luke saved the day by concluding that we just needed to make another cake. Which we did.
• The next night Marinda was going to go Visiting Teaching to Ellery (Luke's teacher crush) and Luke insisted that she take some cake to her. Amit then asked "What about Carl, should she take some cake for him too? Do you remember who he is?" to which Luke replied "Yeah... He's her dad!" We laughed and corrected him saying that he was her husband and that they were married, to which Luke excitedly declared "Yeah! Because they went to college!"
• Liam came over for a playdate this week and Marinda told them that they couldn't play lego star wars unless they both played. Usually this means that they don't play any Xbox because within three seconds they are at each other's throats, but this week they did it! They actually WORKED TOGETHER, and the cutest thing was when they finished a level they would give each other a high five and yell "Go Team L!" Don't worry, Marinda also threw them outside and told them to go lick a rock or something for twenty minutes, so it isn't just all screen time.
• Luke doesn't sing very often, but when he does he just goes for it! This particular number is from Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle.
