Burgers, Contractions, and Other Random Stuff

Sorry - no pictures this week.  We still haven't found the camera charger...

This week Luke and Marinda went too the zoo!  And Luke actually stayed focused on finding the bears and didn't get distracted by the other animals!  Yay Luke!  And Marinda didn't die from walking around!  Yay Marinda!

Marinda over did it on Friday and had her first real contraction!  She's had pretty much zero braxton-hicks contractions (see Get Your Kicks from Braxton-Hicks blog entry for an explanation about what these are) and then she had one, evil, big, contraction.  "It was like all the pain from this entire pregnancy was rolled into one moment and then doubled," she said when asked about it later.  And of course Luke was eating lunch and was talking to her during the whole thing.  She took a nap after that, and other than some more braxton-hicks things have calmed down.  Let's just say that she is lowering her activity levels until this thingy is out of her.  :)

On Amit's side he had a huge presentation on Friday!  It apparently made quite a big splash at the meeting (a good splash, not a bad one) - so go Amit!

We also went and got hamburgers two nights in a row this week...  because the baby said so.  We can now rate our three favorite burger places.  Red Mill and Rain City are pretty close as far as burgers go, but Rain City has much better milkshakes (or oreo malts... which is what we got.)  Red Robin is still a staple (and you can't beat their wings and bottomless fries), but it is nice to find local places that make amazing burgers.  If only both of them were, you know, local for us - instead of local to where we used to live...

And as a side point, did you know that you could get Daniel Tiger season 5 from the library?  And that it is all about Daniel getting a new baby sister?  Yeah, we've kind of realized that Daniel Tiger is our child development curriculum, but that is only because it is so good and it works!

Luke-isms for the week!
- Luke was giving his excavator "big time-outs" this week for throwing blocks.  He would tell his excavator that throwing blocks was bad, and then take it to his room and turn out the light and shut the door, then he would count to three, and go in to get him and ask in a deep voice (well, deep for a toddler) "Why did you get a time out?" and then he would change his voice higher and say "because I threw a block!"  He did this, like, three times in a row!  Note: we only do "big time-outs" in his room like this for things like hitting Mommy with sticks, running into the road and playing with power sockets, so it isn't like he is getting it every day, but should we be worried?!?  Are we scaring our child so that he has started punishing his toys?!? My Mom, who has a master's degree in early childhood development and education, has assured me that this is perfectly normal behavior and that he is just working out different life situations through his play.  I guess she would know, her master's was on the importance of play, it is just funny to see all these child development theories actually happening!
- Marinda was doing her hair in her bathroom when Luke came in and said "I was playing construction, and I knocked over your laptop.  I'm sorry, come help me fix it?"  Wow.  She wasn't mad at all, she was impressed.  He's only 2 and half!  It is hard to remember sometimes that he really is still a baby and not some little adult.
-Luke was almost perfect for sacrament meeting at church today. I mean, perfect for a 2 1/2 year old. The worst he got during the sacrament was him saying "You need to be QUIET," which, of course he didn't say quietly at all. Other than a trip to get his water bottle refilled, he basically sat in the pew and either looked at his quiet book or did his elephant alphabet puzzle. He's becoming such a big boy!  (note: last week he was so bad that we had to leave our seats and find a side room for him to go crazy in.)
-Yesterday we attached our bookcases to the wall and Luke was super eager to help. Amit was making holes in the wall to screw in the screws and Luke thought he needed to help. So instead of using his play screwdriver on his cardboard box like we told him to, he went ahead and made his own hole in the wall of our bedroom closet. Sigh. (Note: we don't actually know that the hole wasn't already there. But Luke did confess. But was it under duress?????) On a less stressful note, we actually have bookcases and books on said bookcases! Yay for unpacking!
-For some reason Luke has been really interested in standing up on stools and either singing songs or bearing his testimony.  We've taught him a little thing to say "I'd like to bear my testimony, that I know the church is true, and that Jesus loves me, I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!" And we get to hear his testimony, like, five times a day.  On Sunday, which was the first of the month where members of the congregation go up to the front and share their testimonies, Luke kept saying that he wanted to do it too, you know, since he now knows what it is.  Maybe in a few years...  when he actually has some idea of what he's saying.
