We mentioned at the end of last week's entry that we were about to head out to a Microsoft training thing at Suncadia Resort off in the mountains east of us. The pictures online looked great, but that was nothing compared to what we saw! Our (fully paid for) room had a kitchenette, a living room with a pull-out couch (which was more comfortable than our mattress at home) a full bathroom complete with soaker tub and a master bedroom. And did we mention the view? Of the untouched mountains with a river snaking down below us? Yeah, it was pretty incredible. We're pretty sure the resort's unofficial slogan is "come and hike the great outdoors, then come back for your filet mignon dinner!"
After basking in the glory of the goodness of our room for a little bit, we took Luke for a walk around the lodge. It was a nice walk, but the funny part was that every time we came to a pile of rocks, Luke insisted on climbing them, and then singing us a song! It was super cute how he needed a stage for his rock star debut!
That night was the banquet. We usually have dinner at 5pm, so having dinner at 6:30pm put Luke into a strange, hunger-induced silly state that involved a lot of laughing and a lot of rolling in circles on the floor. But that was ok, because there were a ton of other families there whose toddlers were doing pretty much the same thing. Dinner was pretty awesome, with a grown up buffet that included things like prime rib and salmon, and then a kids buffet with spaghetti and chicken fingers and all sorts of yummy things! Our grown up fancy food was good... but Amit and Marinda may or may not have been picking off of Luke's plate too. They even got to enjoy some grown up talk time with the other adults on Amit's team, because Microsoft had arranged for childcare in the rooms next door! Yeah... maybe working for a big company with the money to spoil it's workers is kind of nice...
The next morning Amit headed off for his training, and Marinda thought she would take Luke out to find that playground we saw on the website. One slight problem... Marinda didn't really think through the whole "early mornining in the mountains in the winter" thing, so after freezing to death after walking about ten yards from the door, Marinda and Luke hurried inside and waited until it was a little warmer to go exploring. Amit had a great training about how to present your ideas so that they are clear and "stick" - or in other words how to make your ideas "sticky." You would think with a toddler he would already be an expert in everything sticky!
Amit finished around noon, and with a melting Luke we headed home. We guess Microsoft isn't that bad...
Marinda had another check up this week, and guess what? The baby is fine! "I could have told you that, she keeps kicking me in the middle of the night so hard that I can't sleep!" We did find out that the baby is facing down, so that is good to know. In other baby news, Jacy has officially found Marinda's rib cage this week and has taken up residence in it. Ow. But compared to what most of this pregnancy has been like, this is smooth sailing!
Today was a special day at church. We usually have what is called a Stake Conference every six months were all the congregations in our Stake (about 6 or 7) get together for a big meeting. We already had our conference about three weeks ago, but we had another one today because one of our Apostles, Elder Perry, came to speak to us! We tried to get Luke ready by showing him pictures and talking to him about what an Apostle is, but Luke was still more interested in playing with his car. Oh well.
The other big story this week is that Luke got his fist car! And it's even a convertible! Specifically an Audi Spyder. His Daday (Amit's older brother Anup) sent a belated Christmas present and it's finally been dry enough that we could take the car for a spin. Ever since we showed it to Luke he's been obsessed with it. All day he asks mommy if he can drive his car, and she says "we need to wait for daddy to come home." So when Amit comes home, Luke usually says "I'm so glad you're here daddy!" or "I'm so excited to see you!" and then runs to his car. The funny thing is, he spends only 10% of his time driving the car. The rest of the time he pushes it on or off of the grass, or opens up the trunk (yes, it has a trunk) to put mail in it.
Luke-isms:
- We were in the car yesterday leaving the park and were discussing which grocery store we were going to go too. Marinda said that she was planning on going to Safeway when Luke jumped into the conversation with "Not Safeway grocery store! I don't like Safeway grocery store, I like Fred Meyer grocery store!" It was pretty funny and we couldn't stop laughing for a while.
- Every couple of months Amit and Luke bring up what is called "The Gorilla Game," where they pretend to be gorilla's together. (Did you follow that ok? We know the rules sound pretty complicated to someone who's never seen it in action before.) This time around is just plain hilarious though, because Luke gets the funniest look on his face and balls up his fists and just kind of wiggles them in front of himself while taking little steps and breathing really fast. A new rule to the game is that one of them has to pretend to be asleep while the other one pretends to be a gorilla and wakes them up. Hours of entertainment!
- Luke loves to build things with his legos. Usually it is a rocket ship or a farm, but this week he built a tall tower and a slightly smaller one next to it and said "It's Daddy's office building!" He even pointed out where Daddy's window was!
- It seems like every morning we wake up to Luke, and usually it is the same routine of "The Sun's Awake! Time to wake up!" whether or not the sun is actually up or not. Usually blankets being pulled off is part of this routine with Marinda thinking to herself "this is why I didn't join the military!" Don't worry, we got a new clock that we're going to introduce him too tonight. But this week he tried to new phrase to get Amit out of bed. In our half-conscious state we heard him declare "You can do one more thing, and then it is time for you to have fun with me!" See? These kids are totally listening when you talk to them...
-We visited a friend who had just had her baby on Sunday, and for the first time ever Luke has shown interest in a baby. He told Marinda's friend that her baby was "cute!" and would stop playing to look at him every now and then. And then, before we left, he even went over to where the baby was and gave him a kiss on the head!
