Two Birthdays, A Baker and The Mess Maker!

Monday was Marinda's birthday! For your reading pleasure, we have two descriptions of Amit and Marinda's mornings for her birthday:

Amit:
6:45 - Hears Luke on baby monitor
6:46 - turns off baby monitor and crawls out of bed
6:48 - OMG!!! Luke has a giant blowout like he's a newborn
6:53 - short bath for Luke to get him cleaned up
7:00 - Okay, let's start breakfast and get the card printed
7:01 - shoot, dishes need to get done
7:05 - What! The formatting for the card is all wrong
7:15 - No! The waffle got burnt! (continues churning out waffles)
7:34 - save final version of card and print it
7:44 - Breakfast is done! A dozen waffles and bread and eggs for Luke
7:45 - Go wake up mommy

Marinda:
7:45 - Oh yay! My family is bringing me a card! Squishy baby!
7:47 - Oooh waffles! Thanks Hun!

That night Amit had a very low key birthday party of Marinda with a Costco red velvet cake. Plenty of friends came and we just hung out talking, eating loads of sugar, and watching our kids run around like crazy. Good times!

Luke has been saying lots of new words this week! One night during his bath he kept saying bathtub (or bath time maybe?) over and over again. Yesterday after getting back from the grocery store he saw the peanut butter (which he was eying in the store), pointed to it and said 'peanut butter' while making the sign for 'more'. Last night, Luke was drinking some water from his bottle while Amit was holding him and helping him with his prayers. Amit then turned off the lights and took the bottle away before singing Luke his good night song. What did Luke say to that? "My water bottle," or rather "Mah waddah baadlhe." Isn't he so cute? So he's not really into mindlessly repeating things we say to him, but he is finding ways to express himself.

Here's your weekly grabbag of Luke:

This week we got a new carseat for Luke! He's gotten too big for his infant car seat and we finally brought ourselves to getting a bigger one. Luke had a lot of fun playing with the box. He was standing on it for a while, and then the structure of the box collapsed. Surely, you would think, he would stop playing with it then. Who wants to play with a broken box? Luke does! He managed to turn it into a slide, and he even managed to not hurt himself. Go Luke!

Luke really likes dancing. He even dances in his stroller at the grocery store when he hears the store music - or when Amit is scrapping the bottom of the bowl for waffles...  What was really fun this week was during playgroup we were at a friends house and one of their toys started playing music, and what did Luke do?  He ran over to Marinda, grabbed both of her hands and started dancing!  Heart.  Melt.

Continuing on the musical front, one day this week Marinda started clapping a rhythm. Amit came in with a different rhythm, and Luke just had to join in the fun! He started dancing and spinning around and clapping too. When we were done he took Marinda's hands and started clapping them together!

Another new thing Luke did this week was discover gravity. He really likes playing with our camping mats, which are always rolled up so that there's a long hole in the middle. Luke had a little scoop he was playing with and he started dropping it down the camping mat. Then he would lift up the mat, and there was his scoop! He'd start laughing when he saw it every single time. Then he tried seeing what happens when he put the scoop in part way without letting go, and brought it back out again! His last experiment was tilting the mat over, which is when he discovered that the scoop didn't fall anymore! He totally aced his first ever high school physics lab.

Luke has also discovered the sliding door to his closet this week. He really likes playing peek a boo while sitting/standing in his closet. Sometimes he even tries to pop his head out at different heights (which is something we do with him a lot).  He thinks it is so clever and we have so much fun acting surprised over and over again.

Now for some not so cute (ok, everything Luke does is cute) news.  Luke really likes putting his food on his head during meals, which is frustrating, even if it is developmentally acceptable. He is also becoming far too quick for us, considering how easily he can run away. Thankfully, he hasn't dared run too far away yet, and he always comes back...eventually.

"My food is now a hat!"
"Head, food and hands on hair....wait, that's not it?"
Luke pulling daddy's backpack. "I'm ready to get my PhD now!"
Last Luke story - Amit occasionally plays puppetmaster with Luke's stuffed animals, having them climb on his climb railing, jump to different pieces of furniture, and ride on cars. Luke loves imitating Daddy so he's trying to do these things with the stuffed animals too (it's a given that Luke is climbing on furniture).  It is still so crazy to see him playing with his toys like actual toys!

This weekend we went to a birthday party of Luke's friend Canon. Canon's family lives right below us so we're pretty good friends with them. It was construction themed, so there were hard hats, a sand box, and the food table had a sign that said "Dig In." Luke had lots of fun playing in the sand and playing with the trucks on the ground.

Oh, and Marinda made bread.  We had to add that in so the title will make sense.  Have a good week everyone!
