Lorenzo is Blessed - And Luke Speaks!

This weekend we were in CA to celebrate our nephew Lorenzo's baby blessing!

But first, Thursday night was an exciting (and nerve-racking) night for Amit, who auditioned for the Seattle Ensign Choir and Orchestra. He auditioned to sing in the choir as a bass. "The audition had its ups and downs for me," Amit said. "I forgot the words to my song a couple times, which is ridiculous considering how many times I've sung it and how few words it has!" Thankfully, he held it together. There was also some sightsinging, which he did okay on, and a tonal memory evaluation. "Basically they would play a short sequence of notes and ask you to sign it back to them. The first few were easy, just nice, simple melodies. Then she started playing things that were ten notes long, had no melody to them, weird intervals and just didn't sound like music. It's like they were waiting for me to mess up."

Saturday we flew out to CA. The trip was fun because everyone was there (i.e. all Marinda's siblings and her grandparents). That night we did dinner at a fancy Mexican restaurant (where Amit and Marinda went dancing at when they were dating). It was nice catching up with everyone, but it was especially fun for Luke who got to eat a cheese quesadilla and show off his skills. He even got to see a Mariachi band!

The blessing was beautiful and it was wonderful having everyone there to share it with.  It was even funner to fit everyone in our kitchen for dinner!  It was quite impressive and the food was great.

Now - this may have been a big deal for Lorenzo this weekend - but it was HUGE for Luke!  Because this weekend LUKE SAID HIS FIRST WORD!  Luke's pack-n-play was set up in the corner of our room, and Saturday we were going in to get him from his nap.  When we entered the room he was standing up and had dropped Marshmellow (his dog) over the edge on the floor.  He looked straight at Amit and said quite clearly "Daddy" and then pointed to his puppy dog!  We were a little shocked, but it was pretty cool that his first word was really him trying to communicate more than just a word!

Our cute little family after dinner visiting West Cliff.

Everyone there for Lorenzo's Blessing
The happy little boy!  Congrats Lorenzo!
