12 lbs, 7 oz, 23.5 inches long and 3.26 tons of adorableness!

This week's entry will be totally Luke-centered (shocker, i know).  On Wednesday night we had our childbirth class reunion.  It was just like old times, but instead of giant bellies there were babies!  Talk about a good trade.  Everyone was psyched to hear Marinda's birth story, because well, she's very into telling stories and dramatizing them (in a good way).  The best part was definitely seeing a bunch of ~2 month olds.

Luke with all his new friends!
Thursday morning was Luke's 2 month appointment, which means the dreaded shots.  Overall he's doing fine, he weighs about 12.5 pounds and is nearly 2 feet long!  He's doing great and progressing great.  The doctor was very impressed that he was starting to play with toys.  "You should start saving up for college because he's going to go to Harvard or some place like that," our doctor said.  "If he's really that smart then he better get a scholarship," Amit replied.  Luke, if you're in high school and reading this some day in the future, that statement still applies.  Luke also got his shots, which he was not happy about.  "I was expecting him to scream for a while, but all he did was cry a little for 30 seconds and then went back to sleep.  Score!"  But that wasn't the end of it.  Four hours later he decided that it hurt and for the first time in his life had to be held or else he would start crying.  What happened to our independent baby?

Thursday was also exciting because it was the first day of the under one play group Marinda started!  "Playgroup?"  Amit asked when she told him about it, "A playgroup for you or for Luke?"  Ok, at this point it is more of a mother's group, but it was still nice to hang out with other moms.  If you are reading this blog and want to join, just send Marinda an e-mail and she'll tell you where we're meeting this week.

This weekend we went to not one but two movies at the $3 theatre.  Apparently babies are pretty sleepy for a couple days after getting shots (yeah, Luke slept for 9 hours the night after and gave Marinda a heart attack), so we picked the perfect time to go.  On Friday we saw 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.  Apart from Amit often replacing 'Huntsman' with 'Jon Huntsman' while watching the movie, it was okay.  It was a typically action movie, but it seemed to have even less plot and dialogue than most movies.  "Is this what movies are?  What a waste." Luke said after his first trip to the theaters.  "I kept thinking, if they can't get any good stuff into 2 hours, how can anyone?  It's just not enough time to capture the essence of a person."  "Umm, it was an entertaining movie but I'm glad we didn't pay more than three dollars each to see it," Marinda said.

The next day we went and saw the Hunger Games.  "I was actually slightly disturbed by how much I liked it," Marinda said about the second film.  She added it "inspired me...to go crazy, to chop off heads...that's what I did afterwards."  Direct quote.  Ok, seriously she was surprised she liked it because it is about kids running around killing each other, but they did it tactfully on the screen and focused on how stupid it was - so really you were cheering for the main character who is against it all not to die.  Amit had already seen it, but he still liked it the second time around.  Luke's comments: "Movies, I see your value now.  I'm going to train for the 86th annual hunger games."  When told the Hunger Games weren't actually real, he replied, "Ummm, I just saw it.  On the screen.  Of course it's true."  Disclaimer:  Marinda does not like Amit's joke there.

This weekend wasn't all about movies though.  On Friday and Saturday Luke also got to go to the park!  Marinda has a general plan of taking him to the park every day it is sunny, and he had a great time!  It was so peaceful to sit under a tree on a blanket, Marinda with her book and Amit working on his novel and Luke going crazy with how cool the trees and sky were to look at.  A perfect family outing.

Luke loved the park!
He even picked a flower for his Mommy - what a good boy!
In other news Luke has been way more interactive recently.  He's 'talking' a lot more, making sounds with his mouth all the time now.  He's also been more fussy in that he'll cry if he's not being held instead of just crying if he was hungry or gassy.  Durandal also came up and sniffed Luke (we're surprised he isn't more interactive in general.)  And the dreaded thumb has found its way more than once into his mouth!  *GASP*  Everyday he's slowly changing from a newborn to more of a baby.
