We've been watching the baking show (Great British Bake-Off) a lot and one of the episodes we watched this week was "Pie Week." For one of the challanges they had to make a savory pie, and Luke asked "why isn't anyone making a chicken pot pie? I would make a chicken pot pie." So as you can guess, for his night to make dinner on Friday, Luke baked chicken pot pie! Ok it was just frozen chicken pot pies, but he put the foil on the edges and turned on the oven, so he was totally over the moon. During dinner, Luke decided we should pretend we were in the show and we were all different characters baking pot pies. Luke pretend to be one of the judges and asked us about our bakes. Jacy's pot pie had an ice cube in it to help it cool off, so her conversation with Luke went something like this:
Luke: Jacy
Jacy: NO! I want to be Liam! (one of the characters from the show)
Luke: Sorry. Liam - tell us about your bake.
Jacy: Well, I just have an ice cube in it and it's going to melt.
Luke: Oh yeah. It looks like you have a lot of good stuff in it. What's it going to look like when it's done? (this is what the judges actually ask the contestants)
Jacy: Well, the ice cube will melt and it will be a yummy yummy soup!
We would also like to mention that Luke has placed his hopes and dreams on Steven, one of the contestants in the Baking Show. He starts freaking out and jumping on the couch and cheering for him like he's watching a sporting game, not one of the most chill, properly British shows ever invented. If Steven doesn't make it to the final, we honestly don't know what's going to happen to Luke.
Marinda's friend Jen babysat Jacy and Asher this week. She has two older kids, but has saved a goodly amount of their baby clothes. Apparently Asher had a blow out, so when Marinda came back to pick them up she found him in just an old outfit that Jen had that she just RANDOMLY picked out.
In other Asher news, he's become very destructive this week. Just look at what he did to his play mat, and that look on his face of "who me?! I'm being framed!"
Luke has really been into this thing called Inktober, where for the month of October you have a different prompt and you're supposed to draw a picture in ink. Luke's been loving it and we've really enjoyed seeing what he's come up with. In order, the prompts the match his pictures are:
"Weak" - a car is weak when it needs gas, so this is a car is at the gas station.
"Angular" - Marinda discribed this as all straight edges with no curves. So of course Luke made a scene from Minecraft, which is actually kind of genius. It's a Skeleton fighting a guy named Steve.
"Swollen" - the river is swollen and there is a flood... insert crazy little kid "I can't stop adding things!" drama! People on the house, people on a wrecked car, a helecopter rescuing people, something exploding in the background... yeah, this picture has it all!
"Bottle" - Luke asked Marinda if he could draw a bad drink, and I said yes... Anyone guess this picture? Here's a hint, the square on the bottom is a soccer feild and the people in the seats are Luke and Marinda... Look back on our post on September 30th. :P
Marinda also did her own artwork this week! Since it started getting dark she has been sitting infront of her light therapy lamp every morning, and Luke asked her why. So Marinda drew him this very clear picture that we think explains why seasonal depression occures.
Other Luke updates - he is helping more with Asher and even fed him a bottle! He is also still going crazy with legos in that way only little kids can, where they don't care about kits nearly all that much and uses them to come up with even cooler things that no adult ever could! (On a more morbid note and along that line of thought, Luke is six years old. That's how old Ender was when he was recruited in Ender's Game - which if you're wondering is on Marinda's "every human needs to read this book because of the questions it makes you ask yourself" reading list.)
