Harvent Festival:
Luke's school can't offically celebrate Halloween (because it's when we all worship the Devil!), so instead they have a "Harvest Festival." (It kind of reminds Marinda how in middle school they renamed their intense version of dodge ball called "Slaughter Ball" into "Friendship Ball.") ANYWAY the kids hopped into their costumes and off we went! We thought the awesome music and their crazy friends dancing and running around (even Jacy's friends were there because they are all the younger sisters of Luke's friends) would make them go crazy and have fun as well - but Jacy got sensory over load and had to spend most of it outside and Luke refused to go into the gym and even threatened to go home until Marinda bought him some candy. After that, armed with his sugar high, he went full out crazy with his friends. The funniest part of the evening was when Luke and five of his frends came out into the hallway where Marinda was hanging out with some of the other moms in a congo line! They were just following each other with their hands on each other's shoulders shouting "CHA CHA CHA! CHA CHA CHA!" without the kick, but it was still hillarioius!
This was also the first time Asher rode in the baby carrier FACING OUT! Yeah, he was eaten up by everyone with his cuteness! The funny part was, that even facing out and the crazy loud music spilling into the hallway and everyone freaking out over him, he still managed to pass out!
Church Party:
Ok a little background on our costumes this year. Our friends gave us this BB8 baby outfit for Marinda's baby shower (why? Because they are awesome and recongnized the awesomness within us as well) and when Luke saw it he declared that this year's theme was DROIDS! Asher was done, and Jacy declared that she was going to be R2D2 (her beeping is to DIE for!) so that left Luke and Amit and Marinda to figure out who they were. Fortunately, one their ABC Star Wars books (we've mentioned how awesome we are right?) had "Droids" for the letter "D" and it had Chopper! The Astromech droid from the Star Wars Rebel series (which is canonon if you are wondering), who is owned by a rougue Jedi named Kanan (who we were thinking of naming Asher after btw). So everything worked out! We had our driods, Amit would be Kanan and Marinda would be Rey, because how could she not with her little Baby8 looking so cute!
We had already invited the Walsh's to come to the party (they came as Harry Potter, Marinda couldnt' stop laughing over Stephen's dyed, flattened hair as Snape!) and that morning we had invited Luke's other friend Lucian to the party, so Luke had two friends to run around with! Ah, the lovely stage where you can just release them into the wild. They went through the Haunted House that the teenagers put on, and instead of last year when Luke got five feet in and turned around, they went through the whole thing together (safety in numbers) and came out laughing saying they weren't scared at all!
ANYWAY! The party was awesome, with the afore mentioned haunted house, games for the kids, and a professional photo shoot curtosty of someone in the ward being a professional photographer! Then we had our customary Trunk or Treat, and this year was sooo much better because when it started to rain Marinda had a roof to sit under. Minivans for the WIN! The best part of it would have to be Marinda's revenge for the older kids who kept coming back over and over. It was super dark, and when they would walk by again Marinda would chuck a piece of candy at them, causing them to squeal in a very satisfying way. Halloween is always so much fun!
Luke's Primary Program:
Every year we have a "children's service" where Sacrement Meeting (the main service with all the families) do all the singing and speaking - and yes, it is as cute and heartwarming as it sounds. That means that Luke had a speaking part that he wrote himself! We had invited Liam to come see Luke do his public speaking, but the night before at the Halloween party we invited Lucian and his mom to come see Luke too! So Luke had TWO friends! He did AMAZING and even had his part memorized! What was funny though is that you could see the exact moment he made eye contact with his two friends.
Luke's Karate:
Luke's Karate studio is the best, and his Sensei is the best. Enough said.
Marinda's Art Project:
Ok, here's the deal. Asher's costume was done, Jacy's was fairly easy to put together from stuff on Amazon - but Luke's Chopper costume?!? Yeah, Marinda needed to bust out her mad skillz. First she looked up a picture of Chopper and did a rough sketch of what elements she wanted to include (she was going to do the shirt in the same style as Jacy's R2D2 shirt). Then she measured the dimensions of Jacy's shirt and the image on it, then did some basic algebra to figure out the dimensions the image would need to be for Luke's shirt. Then she scanned the rough drawing she had done, then traced it with her writing program on her computer that also does shapes, then scaled it to the right size, printed it off in four pieces because it was too big for just one piece of paper, then taped them together and taped it over some iron on orange vinyl and a cardboard box, then used her exact-o knife to cut out the shapes, then ironed them on to Luke's shirt and BAM! Luke's Halloween costume!
Kid's Bonding Time:
Luke kind of goes in waves of what video games he gets obessed with, and this week it is Lego Batman. The funny thing is that even though we have it playing on the TV thanks to some fancy cord work by Amit, Jacy prefers to sit next to Luke when she watches him play. It makes Marinda happy because she used to do the exact same thing with her older brother.
Luke is also AMAZING at reading now (how? We don't know, but it's pretty cool) and sometimes reads the bedtime story to Jacy. (This is the part where you all say "AWWWWwwww").
Jacy is Literate:
Did you know that all the problems in the world would pretty much be solved if every girl and woman knew how to read? Well, Jacy is doing her part! She has been obsessed (have you noticed that our kids never just merely "like" things like lesser mortals but always go on full out commitment?) with her magnetic drawing board. Well, it has mostly been lovely self portaits or impresionist paintings of one of us, but tonight in the middle of scripture study she held up her board and yelled, "LOOK! J FOR JACY!"
ASHER IS ROLLING!:
ASHER ROLLED THIS WEEK! ALL ON HIS OWN!!! It was pretty hillarious - one minute he knew which way was up and down and the next BAM! WHY IS THE FLOOR ON THE CEILING!?!? WHAT HAPPENED!?!?! With that adorable face baby's give with huge eyes when they are pretty sure Armageddon just happened.
Asher Attack!:
A picture says a thousand words, so you can imagin how many these four have to say. Probably something along the lines "Hey Luke! What'cha doing?" - "Can I play too!?! CanICanICanI?!??!!?" - "FINE! FEEL MY WRATH! ATTACK!!!!!" - "Never mind, this is funner! Giddy-up Horsey!"
