Mommy and daddy go to bed for the whole day every year

Happy Mid-Winter Break! Aka, the random week the kids don't have school in February because...people are tired of the rain and need a break? Or President's Day should actually be President's week? We're not really sure, but we'll take it.

Both kids were off of school, and we weren't going anywhere given Marinda's health, so we just stayed home and enjoyed not having to live our lives tied to Luke's bus schedule. The kids watched a lot of Octonauts, played outside in the snow that we surprisingly got, and had a couple play dates.

So. It snowed! Quite a bit actually. One Thursday it actually stayed on the ground through the night so the kids played outside after breakfast at 7 in the morning because they were worried it would melt. Luke had a lot of fun breaking up ice, especially when he want across the street for a playdate/being babysat and he got to use a real grown-up hammer to break up ice blocks (with supervision, and with goggles on).

On Friday, Amit and Luke celebrated Mid-Winter break by going to the Microsoft Company Store to buy a new Xbox controller. Luke got to pick it out and he chose a Minecraft creeper controller (he refused to pose for a picture). He also wanted to get a pen and a badge holder like Amit's. Afterwards they went to lunch at the commons, which has all sorts of lunch options. Amit figured Luke would want pizza, or a burger, or something that little kids love, but instead he chose the soup place. He got a lobster bisque (to go with the Octonauts obsession) and cornbread, and only ended up eating the cornbread because the soup was too hot. He drank an apple juice, and opted for normal milk instead of chocolate milk (yes, really).

Saturday evening the Sister Missionaries came over to help Marinda. They spent a good long time helping Marinda with her clothes, and then stayed a bit longer looking at wedding stuff and talking about books. Meanwhile, Amit was playing Lego Star Wars with Luke. He had to start his game over because we lost all of his game saves when the old Xbox died, but they had fun playing levels over again together.

This week we also met with Marinda's new doctor. It's at the same hospital and in the same office which makes switching easy. This new doctor seems like a much better personality fit for Marinda. Hopefully things will continue to go better and having a more receptive doctor will help things along (fingers crossed!)

Other fun stories:
•Jacy put all her stuffed animals in her doll house because they were "having a dance party".

•Jacy used to love taking baths, but for some reason the past couple weeks she's shrieked and refused to get in the bath. When we try to force her she jumps, cries, and thrashes around. We're not sure what's going on, but we're hoping it's just a phase.
•Luke loves watching Octonauts. So much so that when we turn it off he gets really angry at us. So he has started saying that he's going to make the rules now, and that mommy and daddy have to go to bed. He even made a sign that say "MOOMYDADYGOTBEDFORTHEHOLDAYeverYYerr" or "Mommy and daddy go to bed for the hold day every year." And tonight he added "RORROR" for "roar roar" to it, I guess because he'll be allowed to roar as much as he wants. As much as we disagree with the sentiment, at least he's interest in writing!
•Luke has been really into drawing lately. Last Sunday at church he was in tears because his drawing of a race car crashing into a building didn't turn out how he wanted, so we found some youtube videos to help him draw things like his favorite Octonauts character and Minecraft characters. He's already shown great improvements!

•Luke was struggling to think of things he can do on Sundays, because he's so focused on things he's not supposed to do on Sundays (like not watch Octonauts and play Minecraft). So we decided to start a tradition of baking a treat as a family on Sundays. Today we made apple pie (from a mix) and the kids actually seemed to enjoy helping!
