Gender Reveal! It's a...

We know! It's a little early, but we had an ultrasound through the genetic testing stuff at the hospital so we found out this week! And unlike the last two times, we had a gender reveal party since Luke is old enough that he understands (it was just for the four of us, so not a big party).

We asked Luke what kind of party he wanted to have and we all agreed that a cake was the best way to tell him if it was a baby boy or baby girl. And he decided that it would just be our family and not a bigger thing (maybe so he could eat more of the cake? we're not sure). As we started asking him more about what he wanted, Luke began taking on more and more party planning duties until he decided the was going to be the official party planner. He even made a clipboard with a bunch of checkboxes and the guest list!

Our official party planner after a successful shopping trip!

Luke picked out the balloons, plates, cups, and napkins for the party, along with planning the full agenda (cake, Octanauts, and then music by daddy). Amit was in charge of making the cake and it...was the best gender reveal cake he's ever made! It tasted great, it just didn't look as good as he hoped. The inside of the cake had food coloring so Luke would know. With the chocolate added in, the color wasn't exactly what we were hoping, so we told Luke to look for bluish green or reddish brown.

But I know you're all dying to know - here's the official video of Luke cutting into the cake!

It's a boy!!! We were both so convinced it would be a girl because we had a girl name picked out (Asha), and Jacy's doll house family has a brother, a sister, and a baby girl, so obviously it was meant to be. But we are so excited to have little baby boy in our house. Now we just need to pick a name...

Luke: I told you it would be a boy! Jacy: Cake!

The other fun thing this week is that we started doing Valentine's Day stuff! Luke's class celebrated on Friday and he took Octonauts Valentines in. Jejema also sent a craft for us to day, so yesterday we made our own decorated stuffed hearts.

On Friday night, we went out on a date to see Swan Lake! We were worried Marinda would be too sick to go but she was feeling well enough to go. She got fluids every day Monday through Thursday and rested all week. By Friday morning, she was even well enough to drive Jacy to school! We had a great time at the ballet, but we were so wiped out by the time we got back because it was so late.

Other fun stories:
•We did our monthly trip to Mehcnies on Tuesday because Amit had a super-late meeting on Monday, but it ended up being a good thing because Tuesday was National Froyo Day (because of course that's a thing). Besides getting a discount, there was someone dressed up as the Menchies froyo cone dancing! The kids didn't want anything to do with it, but Jacy intently watched him/her the entire time. Jacy also got really upset when some other people came in and didn't say "hi" to the cone, even though she hadn't. Afterwards, the waved goodbye but still wouldn't do a high five.
•This week the kids have been obsessed with Octonauts again, and they play a lot of Octonauts with Luke as Shellington (because he's the scientist) and Jacy is Dashy, because Luke picked a girl Octonaut and Dashy is a girl. Luke was nice enough to make two Octonaut buttons for them to press when playing so they didn't have to fight. Good sharing!
•Luke got his first report card ever! I guess even kindergardeners get report cards nowadays. Luke's doing fine, even if he thinks school is hard and boring.
•We kind of forgot about our ultrasound (the one where we found out it was a boy). So we brought Jacy with us. Jacy just wanted to play in their awesome waiting room, but we had to bring her in with us. They have this cool setup where you can see the ultrasound on a big monitor, so Jacy was able to get a good view of the baby. Jacy kept saying it was "so cute!", even though the ultrasound probably looked like a blob to her. At least she's going to think the baby's cute when he comes out!

We also had some sunshine this week! It's going to be a while before the weather really turns better, but we got a sneak peak of the awesome spring and summer that are just on the horizon!
