Did You Know Some People Eat Solids?!

Jacy had her first solids! Her doctor said we could start her on them anytime between now and six months, so Marinda roasted and mashed some sweet potato and let her go at it!  Yes we're planning on doing baby led weaning again (with just a little spoon feeding for restaurant practice), so we just plopped it down in front of her and giggled while she mushed it a little with her fingers and then sucked the gooyness right off!

Wooo!  Food Time!
Jacy conducting a scientific inquiry:
It is squishy!
Drumroll.....
Success!
Amit is officially on paternity leave for 4 weeks! Well technically, it starts tomorrow (Monday), but no work for 4 weeks! This past week has been crazy for him trying to wrap up everything so he doesn't have to do anything while he's gone (and so he doesn't have a bunch of stuff thrown on him when he gets back) and because his team was doing a hackathon project, or rather, Amit and the new guy on the team were doing a hackathon project because everyone else was too busy. But for the next 4 weeks, no work (except for whatever Marinda assigns him :P)

Marinda is crazy and decided to take the kids to the zoo by herself because she wants to be a good mom or something and give Luke exposure to the world or some sort of stuff.  We were all set to do a nice, easy loop of some of his favorite animals, when Marinda noticed him limping.  And behold - he had a huge gash on his foot!  Not gushing blood, but enough that Marinda was concerned.  So Marinda got to teach Luke that Mommy gorillas carry their babies gorillas on their backs... while seeing all the fun animals.  Quote from Marinda after succeeding on this crazy endeavor?

"I am Mommy, hear me roar!"

No Luke!  SMILE at the camera!
What a stinker.
15 shots later, one with the animal AND the kids face!
BAM!  Cute boy!
Luke stories:
- Luke has been much more interested in holding Jacy and playing with her. Yesterday he wanted to hold her - twice! - and every time Jacy even slightly brushed part of him he would squeal "Look! she's touching my leg" or "Eek! She grabbing my shirt!" He certainly loves having his baby sister around now!

Aaaaawwwwwww.......

- Yesterday we were talking about the lost Malaysian airplane (MH 370) and how the wing washed up on Reunion island. Luke normally doesn't really listen when we talk about 'grown-up' stuff, or he hears a word and just repeats it. But when we mentioned an airplane that crashed in the water, he got very intrigued. He kept saying "talk about the airplane that crashed again." So we'd repeat the story - and then he'd ask us to tell him what happened again. Then after dinner we played 'missing airplane' and talked about how it was a 'mystery' because we don't know why or how it happened.

- Luke has become a master of observing the human condition, and lately has been instructing us with such profound statements as "Did you know that some people hit?" "Did you know that some people like ice cream?" "Did you know that some people are bad and do bad things, and some people are good and do good things?"  It seems that everything that constitutes the building blocks of life can be broken down into a "Did you know that some people..." statement.
- Luke had a moralistic identity crises this week.  We knew that we should have identified the moral weight of actions instead of the person ("That was a good thing you did" vs "You're such a good boy!") because during nursery he got into a small scuffle with one of the other kids over a toy barn, and all day and week he kept saying "I'm a bad boy because I did bad things.  I was angry with Dallin," and we've had to try and separate the action from his self-identity.  Man, being a parent is hard!

Jacy stories:
- Jacy's dancing is getting amazing!  Check out her "So you think you can dance" audition video!

It was beautiful this week, so Marinda took a blanket outside.
Oh, and her kids too.
We've been working on Luke's "penmanship" -
check out that perfect grip!
Luke's new obsession is this show called "Mighty Machines",
specifically the snow storm one.  Marinda has discovered that she can get him
to help out with random chores by offering to turn it on....  :)
