This week the plague has officially hit our house. Luke is still getting over his cold with a nose running enough to fix the drought in California. Amit has a cough that could wake the dead, or Marinda, which some days is pretty much the same thing. Even little Jacy has a clogged eye duct that is making her nose run.
But Marinda gets the cake this week! She has just LOVED going to the hospital so much this past month that she felt like she needed to go again. Her first attempt was Saturday night when she got a pretty bad fever, but it broke after a few hours and we thought things were going to be ok. Then Sunday night it was getting bad again, and on Monday she went to the doctors. Marinda was shivering so badly the nurse was worried about her and tried to find her a heated blanket for her while she waited.
The suspicion was that she had mastitis and was given some antibiotics and sent home. At this point Marinda was having trouble standing up and was starting to be in a lot of pain from the "cold" and achiness of the fever. This shouldn't have been a problem, except that Marinda's Mom needed to take her Dad to the airport and check out of their apartment... so Marinda would have been alone with the two kids for three hours.
Insert awesome new friends! Feeling horribly self-conscious, Marinda started calling around trying to find someone who could come over and hang out at the house for a couple of hours, and her new friend Konnichiwa said that she could! She is also the friend that is nannying Luke twice a week, so Luke already knew her.
Marinda thought it was just going to be her watching the kids while she rested, but Marinda's fever kept getting worse and worse, and her kind, new friend would take her temperature and bring her Jacy to feed and even tucked more blankets around her to try and help her feel a little bit of warmth. She really was an angel - everyone has just been so nice to Marinda and her family since moving in.
When Amit got home Marinda's fever had gotten to 103 F - and after a call to the hospital they got in the car (with Jacy) and headed over to the hospital. There was now no question that it was mastitis - and Marinda told the nurse that she didn't care if they numbed every nerve in her body if they could make the pain go away. They didn't need to do that, they gave her a pain med and admitted her - and she started feeling better. The funny thing is that the room they put her in was the exact same room she recovered in after Jacy was born, only now Amit got to spend the night this time! Yay for Grandma being here! It was acutally kind of nice, like they got to relive the night after Jacy was born and got to be together.
Other than having it be an very expencive date, it was good they were there because Marinda's fever got up to 104 F and her heart rate was 130 bpm - which is bad for those of you not versed in medical nuances. Marinda's fever broke around 3am and after sweating out all fluids in her body, she spent the next moring hooked up to fluids to try and get her hydrated to the point where she didn't throw up from sitting up. Too much information? We're just trying to get the point across that MASTITIS REALLY STINKS!
They were released late the next afternoon, and by the next day Marinda was feeling well enough to go the Relief Society Birthday Dinner at the church. She still spent most of the week recovering, but actually made quite a fast recovery.
One day she and Grandma took the kids to the park and met Amit there after work, and later that week they went for a nature walk along a trail. Marinda was feeling pretty good about herself, until she saw the mile marker... It took them an hour to go .3 miles! But we guess that isn't too bad considering that they had a toddler with them and the fact that Marinda is still only three weeks postpardum.
But what about Luke and Jacy! Luke loves running over and looking in her cradle in the morning, asking every day where his "baby sister is?" He has also attempted to giver her a fist bump, and even tried to open up her fingers to do the sparkle/explosion thing afterwards. When Marinda was getting ready to go out the door she had left Jacy on the ground next to her carseat and Luke said "I'll watch Jacy!" and proceeded to sit next to her and "watch" her while Marinda got ready. What a big helper!
And though Jacy didn't have an appointment this week, they did weigh her at the hospital for the fun of it and she was 7 lb 14 oz! Go girl! Amit and Marinda are also having fun playing with her. You may not know this but babies mouths are completly slack when they are asleep, so you can move them up and down and make them say stuff! Hours of entertainment we tell you! She is also fun to just snuggle with... You can't beat a warm newborn snuggled up to you on the couch. :)

| Luke said there were wolves in the forest (because of the three little pigs story) and then informed us that he was going to hit them with a stick! |
As a completely unrelated side note, Marinda designed and ordered Jacy's birth announcments. If you don't get one, we're very sorry, but they're expencive and we hope you understand that we still love you! But why we're bring this up is because Marinda wants to show off her mad design skills again! She can't take all the credit, she found an annoucemnt she liked and then based her design off of it, but she DID make it from scratch in Pages - so be impressed anyway! :)
