Lost in (lots) of Good Books

Looking back at this past week - we have realized that we can only really do something interesting and out of the ordinary on Friday night or Saturday.  The other days are all about work, which there has been one big development in!  Amit has a dissertation committee!  He is currently planning on having his general exam on May 18th (which is why he needed the committee put together).   There are a few parts to the exam.  Beforehand he has to write up a 10 page thesis plan, meaning he has to actually figure out what he's doing with the next three years of his life.  Then a week before the exam, his advisor will send him a topic that will be somewhat related to his thesis.  He then has a week to prepare an hour-long seminar on that topic.  Then comes the scary part - after the one hour talk, he will be locked in a room with his committee for an hour.  There they can ask him about anything, anything at all.  Questions like 'what is the current local sidereal time?' or commands like 'derive the Eddington luminosity from first principles' are all on the table.  Sounds terrifying?  Apparently it's so bad that when every student goes through this they don't even want to talk about it when they get out of it.  Is it because they're tired and just want to party?  Or is it that their minds have literally been warped by the probing thoughts and words of their dissertation committee?

Anywho, Friday night we finally caved and bought Marinda a Snoogle.  It is basically a body pillow that is shaped to wrap around you like a nest.  The result?  "I slept last night!  Why didn't we cave sooner?"  commented Marinda.

This is all nice and good, but the biggest story of this week would have to be the all day event of yesterday - BOOKS!  Yes, Marinda and Amit daringly fought off, corralled  and captured half the books in their study/nursery/storage room.  "Our landlord finished attaching the bookcases to the wall this week (which was super nice of him) so we decided to attack them!"  says Marinda.  Though the books did fight back.  There were several times when Marinda would hear Amit suddenly exclaim "AH!  The books are attacking me!"  Apparently tall towers of books WILL fall over...

The Captured Books!  (plus two more boxes)

The ones that got away...

That's it for this week, tune in next week as we continue our exciting adventure that is "Operation Nursery"!
