If you can't handle the heat, use a grill!

This week was jam-packed with adventure and intrigue, as always.  On Monday Amit taught his first class for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, meaning he was teaching a class of about 30 senior citizens (or near senior) about Planets: Near and Far.  Basically it is a perfect astronomy class - no math or physics, just two hours of pretty pictures!  It went well, and Amit got many more questions than he was expecting.  "It was a nice change from undergraduate students, who don't care at all," Amit said.  "And at least I don't have to worry about silly premed students bugging me about why they got a 3.4 instead of a 3.5 in the class."

That night was even more exciting as Sleep Moose productions shot their first feature length movie!  Ok, it was only 3 minutes, but that was a requirement!  As was the lack of any interesting editing.  Amit needed a video of him creatively representing astronomy for a contest he entered for grad. students in an effort to reach out to the greater, non-scientific community.  Tune in next week to find out if he won!

Yesterday Marinda went to a baby clothing and accessory making party some of her friends were hosting.  She made leggings for little Luke and a nursing shield.  "I love being crafty," Marinda said, "It makes me feel so smart and creative."

On Friday we decided to make burgers.  However, Amit was sick of having to clean up the grill after a bunch of burger fat and grease had spilled to the bottom and made a huge mess.  So he decided to make the burgers on our panini maker instead.  Overall the result was satisfactory, but unfortunately both of us burnt our fingers (the same finger actually) while trying to move the panini maker over by the stove!  Maybe the grilling gods are trying to warn us about not making our sacrifices to them....
