Anyone reading this blog has probably already heard the news. You may have heard exaggerated headlines like "Seattle to get 14 inches of snow" or "Northwest Hammered by Snowstorm" or "Ice Giants Attack Seattle, Thor and Edward Cullen combine to save city." Yes, it's all true. We had the biggest snowstorm Seattle has seen since 1996 (ish). We probably had a total of 6-8 inches of snow this past week if we had to put a number on it. Those of you living anywhere where it snows, you're probably laughing at Seattlers right now. 6-8 inches of snow? That's not a blizzard, that's a dusting! If this is what you're thinking, first of all, you're thinking like people in Los Angeles, such as this person. Instead, read this article explaining why this is a big deal (pardon the curse words).
Thankfully the weather has gotten better. Since Friday it has been in the mid-40s and largely rainy. But yesterday it was actually sunny for part of the day! It even got so bad that we had to close the curtains so we wouldn't be blinded. "Amit why are you flashing your flashlight in my eyes?" Marinda cleverly asked. "Stop it!" And then Amit looked outside and saw the bright light. "I'm not shining a flashlight in your eyes. Seattle has just been nuked."
Anyways, you're probably wondering what we've done this past week. Monday was Martin Luther King Day. Amit and Marinda celebrated doing...what is it we did again? Amit did some work, but mostly just relaxed. He's been spending a lot of time playing with his Christmas gift from his niece and nephew and learning some Debussy pieces. He's also been writing, though apparently its a huge secret. No one's allowed to know what he's writing about except Marinda. Why? "Because he's being weird that's why," Marinda said. And when the wife speaks, that is scripture.
Marinda has been enjoying her time to relax by reading "Belgarath the Sorcerer," one of the books in the Belgariad series. "Belgarath the Sorcerer is waaaay better than Polgara the Sorceress," Marinda said. "I definitely don't see myself as Polgara in any way shape or form." She has also been working on her story, but is she doing enough. "No," Amit said. "Her story idea is better than whatever it is I'm writing, but she refuses to write! She thinks her story isn't good enough. She thinks she isn't good enough. Everyone reading this blog needs to comment on this blog and encourage Marinda! No, seriously. You probably need to."
Marinda's mom kept bugging her to take pictures of the snow. Honestly, see the pictures from last week - it's pretty much the same thing.
One exciting thing that happened is that yesterday we signed up to ditch comcast and get faster internet! Two guys from century link came to our door to tell us about the new fiber optic cables they installed to provide new and better (12 Mbps) internet access to the area. Previously we've had Comcast because that was the only option. We were never thrilled by that. Now we'll get faster internet and get it for less! The only catch was that we were dealing with door to door salesmen. Marinda was paranoid and contacted Century Link and was assured that the guys were legit though. While Amit was talking to the guys he learned that one of them used to be a cop and actually knew all about door-to-door scams. Apparently they don't really try to do identity theft because they'll almost surely get caught (you've seen them and can ID them on top of every other tracking method available now).
That's it for this week. We promise next week will be more exciting :)
This is your conscience: work on your story! Both of you! But Marinda, in particular, since I hear she needs a little encouragement. I gave up on my November novel after November 30, so I need to live vicariously through you. Especially since I am required to read it at some point, and it won't be much fun reading an unfinished story. ;)
