It's that time of year again! Marinda and Amit have been prepping Luke as this is the first General Conference where we feel like he can kind of understand what is going on. Right now our favorite video is one of this kid named Jacob getting a tour of the Conference Center.
Marinda found a whole bunch of stuff to do, from making goody bags for each Apostle to making a big board that he could move the speakers around to the podium and a speech bubble so he could fill in what they are talking about - but in the end she was too busy sewing and they ended up just being chill.
Conference Time! Dead on the Couch!
Awe! Daddy/Son Bonding Time!
As for favorite talks, Marinda would have to go with President Uchtdorf's talk "A Summer with Great-Aunt Rose" from the women's session. All his talks he's given for the women's session are amazing, so she just loved this one too. Amit's favorite was Elder Lawrence's talk "What Lack I Yet." Another great one on parenting that we both just LOVED was Elder Foster's talk "It's Never too Early and It's Never too Late", and Elder Holland's talk "Behold Thy Mother" was what could only be described as a nuclear bomb of a talk on the divine power of a Mother's Love. All sorts of good stuff!
Something else that made this General Conference special was that it was the first time since 1907 that three new Apostles were called at the same time. We were a little disappointed that they weren't more ethnically diverse, but then we heard them talk and were reminded that God calls people, not demographics. They each gave off such an amazing spirit of humility that you knew that they were the right men to be called. Marinda especially liked Elder Renlund's talk, because here he is, a cardiac surgeon, in the top 1% of brilliant, talented people on Earth, and he is basically falling over himself in awe and humility that he was given this responsibility. Everything on paper says that he is easily qualified to handle something this big, but that isn't how he sees it or how he sees himself - and that's what makes him perfect, at least according to Marinda.
Yay Conference!
The other defining quality of this week was that the plague hit our home. It probably started with Luke, and then it hit the rest of us, and it really seems like the middle ages. Shrieks of torture with Jacy getting her brains sucked out with a bulb syringe, Amit actually sick (NO!!!!!) and hitting up the dayquil like nobodies business, and Marinda just smashed on the couch... or wait, that last one is normal right? "NO!" Marinda commented when asked, "I WAS REAL SICK TOO!" SOOOOOOooooooooooooo much peach tea, lemon juice and honey, but hopefully we'll all be better in a few days.
Luke stories:
• Marinda bought some stuff to make Luke's Neverbeast costume for Halloween and borrowed a sewing machine, and since then everyday Luke has been asking "Mommy, are you going to make my Neverbeast costume after my nap?" and "Is it Halloween yet so I can wear my Neverbeast costume" and of course "Do you like candy, Daddy? On Halloween we say 'trick or treat', we get candy, and then we say 'thank you!'"
• Because we've all been sick (starting with one of those kids...) we've been trying to push coughing and sneezing into our sleeves/elbows. Luke is getting better, but he has an unfortunate habit of first coughing, having us remind him, and then putting his elbow in front of his month after he's done coughing. And you wonder how we all got sick...
Jacy stories:
• Jacy metamorphisized into a master eater over the past week. We don't know what happened, but she went from kind of poking at her head and being incredibly disappointed when she realized it wasn't a a chew toy to now devouring everything we put in front of her. Half an avocado? Done. Cup of sweet potato? Demolished. Pear slices? Obliterated beyond recognition. Beyond. Recog. Nish'n. You go girl!
• Jacy has started blowing raspberries. Another reason we all got sick - Jacy spitting in our faces. But it is so cute we keep trying to get her to do it anyway.
• She cut another tooth! Now she has a set sitting there so cute in the bottom of her mouth!
• Jacy has a new favorite game! It is called "take everything out of the box!" Marinda helps her sit up and then puts a box in front of her, and Jacy grabs everything inside and takes them out, and then does it again! It sounds boring, but it actually really fun to watch! We promise!
• Luke and Jacy hit a sibling milestone this week. Usually Luke doesn't touch Jacy much, maybe to randomly give her a hug or tickle her feet for like, a millisecond, so we've kind of gotten lazy about watching him playing with her. That is until Marinda turned around and Luke was dragging Jacy by her foot across the family room!
Luke is really into "Fun Scary" right now... Marinda, not so much!
Jacy sent this picture to Amit with this text:
Daddy, I love this dress! I must have it! It is only $20!
You just don't understand! I'll love you forever if I get it! Amit's responce: If you really think it's worth it... Jacy's response: THANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you so much Daddy!!! You're, like, the best Daddy ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(fourteen kissy faces)
AHHHH!!! AVACADO MONSTER!!!!
Awe.........
Look! They're playing together!!
When was the last time YOU looked that happy eating a sweet potato?
BWAH! Words can not express how cute this picture is...
