This week Marinda has been busily working on getting the kids' Halloween costumes ready because we had an early Halloween party with our friends. When we say "busy" we mean this is literally all she's been doing all week. Instead of doing our normal monthly game night with friends, we did a Halloween theme and the kids (and some adults!) got dressed up. Marinda made Luke's Neverbeast costume partially from a pattern but mostly from scratch and Jacy's Fawn costume completely from scratch! She even had to use math at one point! (No not MATH!) Go Marinda!
The party itself was lots of fun, with all the kids dressed up and Marinda doing a cool make-up thing she wanted to try. (We'll all be Neverbeast related for real Halloween.) They even got to kill a giant spider piƱata - which Marinda said was very therapeutic to watch beaten to death with a baseball bat. Then while the kids were going crazy downstairs, the adults played this game where two people would draw cards saying what character they were and what "powers" they had, then they would "fight to the death" by arguing why their character would win, and then everyone would vote on who would actually win. Amit's character was "Everyone at Burning Man" and he was fighting "Yo' Mama," and Marinda's was a three story tall Pikachu fighting Professor Xavier who's bottom half was a velociraptor - it was pretty epic. :P
Jacy as Fawn the Fariy!
And Yes, that is Marinda's Amazing Skirt
The Neverbeast! Be VERY impressed!
Creepy Marinda
Hey Mom! What are these things on my back?!? I can't roll over!
It's like a dream come true!
Candy!!! Observe the awesome tail...
CANDY!!!!!!! Which Marinda and Amit then hid and ate later...
For fun stuff with Luke, Marinda decided to hick back over to Seattle on Friday for the toddler gym. It was great seeing old friends again, like the bouncy houses and the cars and, oh, you meant people friends? Yeah, it was great to see them too. :P
Luke is really good at multitasking
Marinda has always had a profound respect for the garbage and sanitation workers in our county. It is why she was never concerned that Ebola would actually pose a real threat, because we have such a great system for keeping our communities clean. At Family Student Housing you would have thought they were rock stars from the way the toddlers would all line the sidewalks to watch them at work and then they would honk their horns to cheers. Since we've moved here it has kind of been touch and go if they would wave back to Luke, but this week they surpassed all expectations. Luke was out there waving like usual, and this garbage truck stopped and the garbage man got out of his truck, walked up to Luke and GAVE him this little toy garbage truck! It was still wrapped in plastic and was one of those corporate promotional squishy things made to look like their garbage trucks, but was still amazing! When Marinda expressed how surprised she was, the garbage man just smiled and said he was working on building up his fan base. Luke, unsurprisingly, went insane and lived with this little corporate promotional squishy garbage truck for two days straight, which of course was a head ache for Marinda because it was a national emergency whenever Luke misplace it.
Luke stories:
•Luke really loves singing! He also likes taking his favorite songs and making up his own lyrics. For example, there's a story in the New Testament about Peter going to Joppa. Do you know what rhymes with Joppa? Jejebapa! So Luke has started singing the Bob the Builder theme song with the words "Je-je-bapa, GOES TO JOP-PA!"
•Not all of Luke's singing is silly though - he actually sang part of the closing hymn in Sacrament meeting today! It was 'I need thee every hour,' which he apparently knows the chorus to. He's so ready for primary next year!
•Amit and Luke spent time mowing the lawn this week, with Luke being a really big helper. He had his little lawn mower that he was running around with, and he even tried helping with the grass clippings. Amit asked him the hold the bag open while he dumped the clippings in, which Luke did for about 10 seconds before saying "I think you can do it Daddy".
- Marinda was reading scriptures to Luke and was trying to explain what "baptism by fire" meant. She said it was like fire because it was a warm feeling inside of you, and Luke just gave her a super serious look and explained like Marinda what having trouble relating to reality "Mommy, if you're on fire, then you'll die." Marinda decided to wait until he's older to try and explain this again. We are in the middle of teaching him not to touch fire in the first place.
Both our babies are sitting up now!
We were concerned, but Jacy was laughing, so we let it slide
Jacy stories:
•Jacy can sit up now! Given her attempts to try and do sit-ups all the time, we fully expect her to go from lying on her back to sitting up one day. Ok, she still needs some help getting into position, but she doesn't immediately face plant when we let go of her anymore!
• Marinda has a few cute little hair bow things for her to wear that are Halloween themed. One is just a cute pumpkin bow, and the other is a little witch's hat on a clip. She wore them to preschool this week, and all the other mom's just went crazy about how cute she is!
Marinda's text message to Amit to go with the picture: I'm Awake!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (This was during the sacred nap time hour - her brother was asleep, WHY WASN"T SHE!?)
