Epic Hawaii Avdenture - Day 1!

Hello all of you faithful readers!  We have something rather exciting this week - instead of just one blog entry, we're going to write every day of our grand, epic adventure in HAWAII!!!!  Yes, you should all hate us, because we're here and you're not (but in a good, friendly "we still love you" kind of way.)  But we're not just doing it because we want you all to feel jealous, we also just want to record our trip.  And because a certain grandma has been sending Marinda text messages bugging her about pictures....  :P

SO!  Our adventure began early Monday morning.  We said farewell to our cute little bunny and headed out to the airport.  Luke was SO excited.  The night before when we started packing the suitcases he started saying that he wanted to go to Hawaii.  When we told him that we weren't leaving that night and that he had to wait for tomorrow, he flipped and cried that he wanted to go to Hawaii NOW.  It was sad - and really, really funny.

Everything at the airport went smoothly.  Marinda got pretty excited herself when they walked up to the Hawaiian Airlines desk and everyone was wearing tropical shirts and flowers in their hair.  She figured they must have had the best job - everyone checking must have been in such a great mood.

Luke checking out our airplane!
Oh yeah, Luke's smile on demand is priceless!

Once on the plane, we were a little worried.  We were in one of the middle four seats (no window) and it was going to be a six hour flight.  But miracle of miracles, Luke was actually REALLY good!  It broke down like this:

.5 hours - waiting for Cars movie
1.5ish hours - watching Cars and getting upset if we tried to talk to him
.5 hours - lunch
.25-.5 hours - going down for nap
1.5ish hours - nap
rest of flight - played with his cars

It was a true Christmas miracle!  We got our rental car, only took one wrong turn, and headed out to our resort in Ka'anapali.  Luke kept saying "Want to go to Hawaii!" and we kept saying "We are in Hawaii!"  Funny quote, Marinda was driving along and then sudden shouted "OH MY GOSH THAT'S THE OCEAN!"  It was just so big at first she didn't realize what it was.  Another funny thing - Marinda's dyslexia is going insane here!  How her brain works to read is that it takes a sampling of a couple of letters in a word (not in order) and then her brain sorts through her memory bank to see which word would fit best (has those letters, basic shape of word, context.  For those of you who don't know, the Hawaiian language only has 12 letters...  and they are all over the place.  Sure it it is spelled phonetically, but in general every time Marinda sees a street sign her brain feels like it is going to self destruct.  So-Marinda drives, Amit navigates, and Luke gives a running commentary.

SO!  To finish our day we got to our hotel, were very happy with the full kitchen, pull out couch bed and separate bedroom with a king bed.  We got dinner at the hotel restaurant (we were starving) and then went for a walk on the sidewalk along the beach.  Yup, the ocean is RIGHT THERE.  You can hate us again.  :D

Marinda trying out our lawn chair on our balcony.
Yup, life is hard.
Well, a little hard once Luke came out and kicked Marinda off of it...
See you tomorrow!
