Our first day in paradise started a bit earlier that we had originally planned - at least for Amit. Luke, the angel of our lives, decided that he couldn't wait to start playing. So he woke up at 3AM!!!!! Amit got up with him, and for some masochistic/benevolent reason let Marinda sleep in until 6am. He kind of looked like someone who had been trapped on a desert island for 3 years instead of trapped in the living room with a toddler for 3 hours - but if you think about it it is pretty much the same thing.
To give Amit a much needed break, Marinda quickly got dressed and took this crazy little boy on a walk around the resort. We found a fish pond, some pools, a hidden gazebo, and the stream outside our room's window - it even had it's own Daddy to wave at us from the balcony! These people sure think of everything!
This morning our hotel's concierge's desk also had a presentation on different things we could do around the island. They had some pastries and fruit, and though it was a very good, very thorough presentation - it was also an hour and a half long! Marinda and Amit took turns running around with Luke, as there was no way he was going to sit during that whole thing. This time we found some bricks that looked like train tracks, and Luke and Amit discovered that they could "spy" on Mommy from the gazebo. At the end of the presentation they had a raffle that gave away one free ticket to different activities and shows, but they also gave away a free pineapple! WHICH WE WON! Wooo! You might think that it was a sore deal, getting the one prize that only cost $5 - but in reality it was perfect. We wouldn't have been able to go to any of the shows, and any of the other more intense activities would have to have cost us another ticket or more or Amit and Luke - so we got the one prize that we could just enjoy without any strings attached.
Plus, we also learned the best way to eat a pineapple is to twist off the top and turn it over for two hours before chopping - that way all the sugar gets redistributed throughout the pineapple.

Our grand prize is the on the left!
And on the right is the one Amit bought the night before... :P |
After this we were feeling kind of tired, and Luke was kind of crazy, so we rented (for free)
Planes from the hotel and watched it with Luke over lunch and before nap time. We were still kind of beat from traveling yesterday - and from, you know, waking up at 3am - so a nap was very much needed.
After we woke up, it was time to hit the beach! Our hotel had beach front access, but the pictures on the website were a little different than what we got.
We found out that during the winter on this part of the island that the big waves wash out a lot of the sand and leave rocks and only a strip of beach. But you know what, we still had a great time! Marinda lounged on the beach, and Luke and Daddy had fun running in the waves and playing the coolest new game. It's called "plop" - where you get a handful of sand, then when the wave comes in over your feet you throw it into the water while yelling "PLOP!" We expect it to become an Olympic sport within the next few years if we can get the right type of media on it.
Luke also had a fun time playing with his backhoe in the sand. You see, Luke was with Marinda when she bought this little tractor for him to play with him Hawaii and he wanted it right then. But Marinda explained to him that it was a special toy for playing with in the sand in Hawaii, so for the next few days when we talked about Hawaii he would always bring up that we were going to play in the sand with his new backhoe. Needless to say, he was very excited to finally be able to make all these prophesies come true!

| Luke was initially wary of the waves... |
 |
| ...but he got over it pretty quickly |
 |
| Those waves were rough enough to nearly knock Luke down! |

After that, we went to a local food truck near by to get some fish tacos! They were really good, and we felt better than just going to Taco Bell or something for dinner.
 |
| This food truck is supposed to have the best fish tacos on Maui - and they did not disappoint! |
To end our day, we walked back out to the water front to watch the sunset - and Marinda realized that she left the battery to the camera in the charger. Oh well - we enjoyed it, even if we don't get to share it with you now.
