Man, we've been really bad at doing posts! With Marinda having such a hard time, the nagging driving force behind our weekly updates has lost steam - but hopefully that will change with us entering the second trimester. Yes, we said "us" - because anyone who has ever gone through a pregnancy, especially a hard one, knows that by the end of the day the husband is just as exhausted, cranky and, at times, hungry as the wife.
SO! This week! The first part of the week was kind of a blur - Marinda was so sick. Finally, Amit talked her into calling her nurse and seeing if she could go in and get another IV (check out last weeks entry (that hasn't been written yet) for the exciting story of the first IV!). So on Thursday she went in alone this time, but had the same awesome nurse as last time. Unfortunately, she was A LOT more dehydrated than last week and they couldn't get the tube in the magic vein in her left arm, but with a little numbing and a pretty good vein in her hand she was under way. "They are so nice," Marinda said about the experience afterwards. "They made me feel like having to come in was perfectly fine and normal. She tucked me in and got me crackers and pudding and just made me feel so comfortable. There was even a little peek-a-boo view of Lake Union from the window!" By the end her nurse was making comments about how much better Marinda was looking and how she was looking forward to seeing her next week. Marinda said maybe, it depended on her doctor. The nurse then just looked at her and said "No, I'll see you next week. This is clearly working." So, dear universe, it appears that we've figured out a way to have Marinda procreate without dying! YAY!
In Amit news, he has joined an inter-mural football team with some of his guy-friends and Marinda and Luke went to watch him practice on Saturday. Luke liked watching Daddy play, but he liked getting away from Marinda and running towards Daddy even more. It was silly - Marinda and Luke were sitting ten feet away from where they would start the plays and Luke was still whining "I want DAAAAAAAADDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYY!" So Amit would give him a hug between plays - because Amit is the best daddy ever.
Now onto the best part of our blog - CUTE STORIES OF LUKE!
Luke all geared up for winter! (or being very fashionable)
We have a box that he has dubbed his Rocket Ship - and likes to sit in and tell us about how he is blasting off. Well this week he saw Amit's bike helmet and got excited. He made Amit get it for him and he put it on one of his stuffed animals, and then went and got his. He then insisted on Amit helping him collect some more of his hats to put on his other stuffed animals - all of whom he piled into his rocket ship. Because, you see, they were astronauts and needed helmets!
Blast off!
He misses Amit A LOT, and whines and cries for him several times throughout the day. So instead of getting annoyed, Marinda has turned it into a game where she and him take turns saying "daddy" in as many different tones as possible. Soon he is giggling - and learning tone differentiation as well!
A few months ago Marinda started reading "The Magician's Nephew" from the Chronicles of Narnia, just while Luke was playing. Her reasoning was that she wanted him to have some exposure to proper sentence structure. But this week he wanted her to read "The Lion Book" while he went to bed. And he sat there quietly while Marinda READ AN ENTIRE CHAPTER. Do you have any idea how incredible that is?!?!?! Now he wants her to read it all the time and will sit while she does so. Amit even found the little lion stuffed animal that Grandma Mitchell got him a year ago and Luke now calls him "Aslan" and will bang it on the piano explaining that the "lion is singing!" just like in the book.
How cute!
We've figured out why Luke has been so tired and whiny lately - he is now taller than the bar in our kitchen, meaning he must have been growing a ton over the past couple weeks. How in the world did that happen!?!?!
But by far the cutest story of Luke this week happened on Wednesday. You see, Luke is having a hard time with Marinda being so sick. He's been well taken care of by our friends and neighbors, to the extent that Marinda was saying the baby should be some sort of combination of all of their names to commemorate the group effort that is getting this baby born, but there is only one Mommy and Luke is missing her. When Marinda threw up all over the kitchen during lunch on Monday, Luke very practically instructed her that "Mommy needs medicine" and has been following her around with her cane insisting that she use it. The cutest story was when Marinda was so terribly sick on Wednesday that Amit went out to get her some gatorade. She heard him come home, but instead of coming in she heard Luke enter the room, and then climb up the bench at the end of the bed. As he moved over the edge, she could see he was carrying this giant bottle of gatorade and with a big smile exclaimed "MOMMY'S MEDICINE!" He then proceeded to sit next to her and instruct her to "drink Mommy's medicine." But one sip was not enough - with a ridiculously serious face for a two year old he then ordered every time Marinda set the bottle down that "Mommy drink MORE medicine." That probably made Marinda feel better than the gatorade did.
All aboard the conference train!
This weekend was also *drum roll* General Conference Weekend! We know, you're wondering "didn't that just happen, like, six months ago?" Yup! That's kind of how it works. We'll list our favorite talks next week. Luke's favorite talk wasn't actually from general conference - and wasn't even a talk. It is actually the music video for the documentary "Meet the Mormons" that is coming out next week. Marinda was actually kind of reluctant to watch it even though her friends had recommend the music video - she was nervous that it was going to be embarrassing or over the top or something. Of course once she got around to watching it they've been listening to it straight for the past two days complete with Amit buying the sheet music and Luke learning how to "push the big button" to play the video over and over again. Our church has an AMAZING media department, of course the documentary is going to be awesome and inspiring and probably make you cry. It comes out in theaters next week.
