This weekend Marinda got to attend her good college friends wedding in Denver! She's an experimental particle physicist grad student who's marrying another experimental particle physicist. Not surprisingly the event was quite the big fat geek wedding... First, for the non-nerdy things, it was at this beautiful golf course up at the foot of the mountains with giant red rocks sticking out in the background, and Laura looked like a fairy tale princess! Marinda seriously couldn't say enough about how utterly gorgeous Laura looked. Kent was also ridiculously cute - Marinda had trouble not giggling during the ceremony just because he looked sooooo happy! Also, Marinda is really dense and didn't put together that the Australian guy would have an accent until he started talking, so that upped his cuteness as well.
For the nerdy stuff! The program was in the same font and format as a physics journal paper (we made jokes about how Laura was first author), the bridal party walked down to Lord of the Rings, Laura walked down to Zelda: Ocarina of Time, they signed the married certificate to a piano version of "Everything is Awesome" from The Lego Movie, and they cut the cake to a piano version of "Still Alive" from Portal - you know, the video game. The cake had beautifully swirled greek letters on it, and the table assignments were named after different Accelerator Light Sources. It was a really fun and a really great event! Marinda was so glad that she went! Even if she was missing Luke so much that it hurt...
Luke has been really cute with Marinda being gone. The first morning when he woke up and she wasn't there he climbed into our bed and cried out "Mommy!!?!?!?" Amit told him mommy was at a wedding and that she would come back. Then he said "daddy sing the song!" in a very whiny voice (the Daniel Tiger song 'Grownups Come Back'). Then last night right before he fell asleep he popped up and said 'need to find mommy!' before plopping down to sleep. Thank goodness for FaceTime!
This morning Luke told Amit that he had a tooth coming in. Okay, that's not too surprising, and we've talked about that before. Then, he said "tooth coming in my nose," which was a little more perplexing. Maybe he feels it in his sinus? Or maybe toddler's just say silly things sometimes.
Marinda has been feeling pretty bad so far this pregnancy, so on Wednesday we took her to get an IV to rehydrate her. It seems to have worked pretty well, because after a day or two she was actually able to eat and drink somewhat normally again. Right afterwards though Amit said Marinda looked worse than ever before, and Marinda sure felt it. This isn't too surprising - the fluids are about 20 degrees colder than her body tempiture, so it is like she had freezer brain except all over her body. But once she got home, she suddenly became ravenous and ate everything in the house - so yeah, we're guessing that it worked!
For other funny things Luke has done/said this week, he figured out how to do summersaults while Marinda was gone! Now he's rolling all over the place! Marinda has also started asking him after his naps what he dreamed about, and every day this week it was the same dream: Kangaroos and penguins outside my window!
