Chinatown and Tulips

This week we had two grand adventures. On Wednesday Amit went on "Spring Break," aka taking a day off the day after he re-submitted his paper. We went up to Mount Vernon to go see the Annual Tulip Festival. Luke had a great time running around sticking his nose in flowers. He also loved running around in the grass (like we don't have that in Seattle...) While we were there Luke saw a tractor off in the distance and decided to try to run towards it. He was pretty sad when he realized he couldn't reach it, but he was okay once we got to the next stop, where we saw a real-life tractor moving just a few feet away from us!  Later on that week, Marinda was showing him some of the pictures of flowers from our trip, and he kept saying "tractor?"

"No, I don't want a perfect family picture. I'm going to look unhappy"
Luke LOVED running around in the grass
Luke stopping to smell the roses...eh, tulips
"Luke, what color is the flower?" "Whah cahlah?"

Look Mommy!  I'm surrounded by flowers!
And I can run around as much as I want!  *run run run*
Luke's grand escape to see the tractor
Fortunately he wasn't into sitting on flowers, but he loved this tree trunk!
Luke is so funny, he figured out that we were taking pictures of him,
so he started sitting in random places
saying "cheese, CHESSE" over and over again until we snapped a few shots.
Our happy family!

TRACTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the tulips we made a trip to the main reason we go up to Mount Vernon, ice cream at Snow Goose Produce! First we had a picnic with our real lunches, and then we ordered our ginormous "Regular"-sized ice cream cones. Luke went back and forth between us saying "mommy ice cream" and "daddy ice cream." When he wasn't nibbling on ice cream he was putting stones in his bulldozer and pretending to be on a construction site!

Luke!  That ice cream cone is as big as your face!
And we're not joking!
Luke loves Mommy's ice cream!
Or maybe he just loves his awesome goatee...
Other fun Luke stories - we've been trying to point out colors with him. We point out colors and say "blue color". Then we ask him "what color is this?" and he responds saying "what color!" Eventually he'll get it, right? We're not worried - after all, he's not even 2 yet.

One thing Luke has mastered is imagining he's on a construction site. We got a book from the library called "I am a Backhoe" which is one of Luke's favorites now. The book is about a boy pretending to be a bunch of different pieces of construction equipment, like a backhoe, bulldozer, and dump truck. He now loves digging up his blocks like a backhoe and putting them in his dump truck while saying "scoop and dump!" Then he says "dump!" and dumps out all the blocks. After that he puts the blocks into a pile saying "bullie!" (for bulldozer).

Marinda and this boy that she has fallen in love with!
Amit's attempt at a family picture before he realized the zoom was still on.
It was just too funny of a picture not to include!
There we go!  What a cute family!
Marinda and Luke got invited to a viewing party of "Frozen"
complete with freshly popped popcorn and a cute date!
On Saturday we took a trip with Marinda's book club to the international district. The book club had read "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" the past month, which takes place in Seattle in the international district, so they thought it would be fun to go see the places they had read about. Some of the highlights were getting herbal tea in the Panama Hotel, which is the hotel from the book.
