Happy St. Patrick's Day! We hope you are all having a green, gold filled day! Here at the Heb we are celebrating this holiday old school style with mint brownie milkshakes - "old school" being how we celebrated it while we were at our old school in Ohio. Marinda and Amit had only been going out for three days and Amit had a tutoring group he was in charge of running that night (SI for P3 for those of you from Case), so Marinda went to Tommy's (BEST MILKSHAKES EVER) and got him a mint chocolate shake and took it to his session. Yeah, best girlfriend ever points.
Marinda also had some real hard core adventures this week, beginning with her fight against the ice monster "Defrosto Freeze"! *GASP* Yes, with the ice scraper from the car, Marinda tackled the inch layer of frost that had formed on the inside of their freezer. It was the first time she had done it, and it was so worth it - they can fit their ice cream containers right side up again!
Marinda also jumped back into her combat training in the ancient art of Zumba. With several other women at the UW family housing community center, she's perfecting her kicks and spins and lethal hip action that will be sure to keep her and her family safe if they are ever caught on the Burke Gilman Trail after dark again. However, this intense workout has the nasty side effect of not being able to walk for a few days.
To finish up the Marinda section of our report, she went to her Relief Society Service Auction! It is where sisters in the ward (and some non-mormons who came to have fun!) offer up services to auction off. Things like "babysitting for three hours" or "One hour harp lesson" - and instead of money they used points earned from filling out a sheet that had things like "5 pts. for every country you had been to" and "10 pts. if you learned a new skill this month." It was lots of laughs with some AMAZING costco chocolate cake, and Marinda came away with 3 hours of babysitting, a crafting heating tool, a free paper edit from an English teacher (Amit's thesis?) and a fancy schmancy pedicure.
Thursday was also an important day for other reasons - it was Grandma and Grandpa Mitchell's anniversary (34 years!) and Amit and Marinda's dating anniversary. The whole day Marinda kept thinking "four years ago last night I got my last first kiss" and Amit was like "it isn't actually our anniversary! Why does every day have to be special!?!"
And though these things are important, they aren't the REAL reason Thursday was so special... It was Luke's first Pi Day! Yup, for those you who don't know, March 14th is 3.14 - the number for Pi - and we celebrate with what else, Pi! Also, 3.14 backwards is PIE. Seriously. Write it out.
This year Marinda made a very tasty raspberry pi from some raspberries she froze over the summer when they went on sale for super cheap - and it turned out great! We concluded that it kind of needed an extra spoonful of sugar over your slice, but for a first attempt Marinda gets a 10. Luke also thought so... Marinda insisted that Luke's first Pi day was an important enough milestone and he was old enough to have his first taste of sugar. His response? Well, he kept eating it, but it was also before we discovered that it was a little too tart. Oh well, we're calling it a success!
Thursday was also an awesome day for Amit. He went in for his meeting with his advisor, and she was ecstatic over his results for the new paper he is working on! She also said that he only has one (gigantic) part left and the he can start writting his thesis! Marinda nearly jumped out of the car through the roof when Amit told her. "The end is in sight! Sure it is still a couple years away, but with how fuzzy grad school is I'm just happy we have some checklist like structure!"
Continuing on this really long post (this blog is also our family journal fyi), Friday was another exciting day of firsts for Luke! Walking group was cancelled, so Luke and Marinda went to campus to hang out until Amit got out of group meeting. While there, Luke walked around the fountain area holding onto Marinda's hands, and had a fun time seeing geese and ducks for the first time. It was amusing, because both the fowl and the baby were disapointed that they couldn't eat each other. Luke also got to experience grass for the first time, and he was fine with it. We hear lots of stories of kids being freaked out by it, but I guess Luke isn't going to be one of them.
That night was an important first for Marinda and Amit - it was the Married Student Forum and they weren't in charge of it! We had meatball subs for dinner and this really good eclair bar. Bro. Knowles gave the fireside on general conference and preparing for it and it was amazing and spiritually uplifting (as always).
Luke "petted" Durandal this week - he, Amit and Durandal hang out in the morning for some good guy time while Marinda sleeps in. Yeah, that's right, Amit is the one who wakes up at 7am while Marinda sleeps for 2 more hours. For all you moms, please feel free to take a break from reading to go tell your husbands. Did you tell them? Okay, back to Luke. Amit has been trying to teach Luke to be gentle with Durandal - after all, he weighs 10 times more than our little bunny. Luke is...sort of getting the hang of it. Or maybe Durandal is becoming used to being pawed at. Either way, they are having positive interactions with each other! Durandal only runs away in terror 90% of the time now instead of 100% of the time. Progress.
In other funny news, Amit's parents got Luke a shirt from their trip to Paris with a guy with big glasses and a mustache on it and it says "Mr. Mustache Loves This Vintage City." Well, Luke is big enough to wear it now and we keep getting comments on how cute and funny it is. Luke, not liking the attention being diverted to the man on his shirt, decided he was going to 'grow' a mustache...out of avocado and tomato.
We went for a 3 mile walk at Magnuson Park because the sun was out yesterday. The thing we didn't count on was the wind. Holy bovine! Anyways, we walked around, debated the disadvantages of babies walking before crawling, and saw some awesome club rugby action! Amit convinced Marinda that while rugby was super-tough and violent, it was actually safer than football because there's less concussions. We would have stopped and actually watched the game, but it was cold. Maybe some other time.

Have a great week!
