Tummy Time!

We are happy to announce that we have survived our first week of parenthood!  For all of you that are curious, after Luke was born we were in the hospital for about 24 hours before getting discharged around 5pm the next day.  We're doing ok now, but we should have stayed a little longer until Marinda was a little more healed.

Our time since then hasn't been too bad.  Marinda has gone through a lot of aches and pains as her body has been literally pulling herself back together and when her milk came in, but Luke has been a fantastic baby.  He started actually crying on Monday a little, but he only really does it when he is trying to tell us something, and is easily soothed afterwards.  Marinda remembers sitting in the recovery room listening to the other babies in the other rooms crying and just wondering to herself what they were crying about.  She knows she's setting herself up for some unpleasantness later, but for right now she is reveling in her blissful ignorance with her perfect baby.

This week has been kind of magical in a way.  The three of us for all intents and purposes have been isolated from the outside world.  We laugh now about how much we cared about the Greek election and when Amit set up our entertainment center, because honestly nothing seems half as amazing and wonderful as Luke.  All we want to do is spend time with him, and have loved this special week of bonding we've had.  He is mellow and fun and makes the funniest little faces in the world!  Sometimes we'll just start laughing as he makes the funniest sounds as we're trying to take a nap.

Amit has also been a champ as far as taking care of Marinda goes.  Rumor is that he is so good at it that he is thinking about dropping out of grad. school to become a post-pardom doula.  Just kidding.  But while Marinda has been healing and working on breastfeeding (with Amit's support - you seriously need three or five hands during the first few days) Amit has been changing diapers and swaddling and soothing and changing Luke's clothes and feeding/watering Marinda and just in general taking care of everything.  By the end of the first week Marinda had changed a grand total of four diapers.  It is moments like these that she realizes so completely how much she picked the right guy to marry!

A good quote from Marinda summing up her feelings was said yesterday evening:
"You look like the best dad in the world right now.
Because you're carrying the baby in the carrier and putting away laundry."

Enjoy these pictures of Luke day by day and a few videos we've taken!
