This week has been super-hot and smoky! Apparently Canada is burning to the ground or something (there goes our escape route!), so the air quality this week has been worse then Beijing or at least on par with it. Marinda woke up on Wednesday and asked "What happened? Did we get transported to LA!?!" People cancelled trips to the beach and there were health advisory warning. It ALSO happened to be the worst heat wave EVER! It was 100 degrees! Which in Seattle is A LOT!!!!! We cooled off the house at night, then slammed all the doors and windows shut, put up cardboard on the west facing windows, and got one of those portable AC unites you can wheel around your house. And somehow, we survived!
On a more unexpected note, Marinda and Amit actually went on an interesting date this week! The Pacific Science Center was hosting a traveling exhibit to see the Terracotta Warriors, and we didn't have the kids so we could actually enjoy it! It was amazing, they had about eight of the Warriors, and you could get within two or three feet of them! The detail on them is amazing, it is shocking when you realize that they are over two thousands years old! If you're in the area and reading this, definitely make an effort to go and see them!
This was also an important week for networking! Specifically, kindergarten networking! Some of the parents from Luke's class next year found each other (including us) so we had a playdate/potluck so the kids could get to know each other before school started. Marinda and Amit realized, like, five minutes before they were going to leave, that this was also important for them. You see, there is only one duel language kindergarten class. So that means that there is only going to be one duel language first grade class, and second grade class and so on. So we're going to be with these kids and parents for six years! The playdate went well (minus Liam needing to go to the ER) and the kids had fun and Amit and Marinda got along great with the other parents. Overall, it was a success!
Jacy stories:
•Jacy gets really excited for bath time, and with swim camp she and Luke have been taking paths practically every day. So on Friday (when they didn't need baths) after dinner she had this great conversation with Amit:
Jacy: It's a bath time?
Amit: Wo, we're not doing baths today
Jacy: Soon? (scrunches face and puts hands up like she's asking a question)
Amit: No, not today. We'll do baths tomorrow
Jacy: Tomorrow? Yay! (throws hands in the air)
Luke stories:
•Luke was talking about birthdays because he's in general obsessed with special occasions, and he was talking about how we just celebrated Amit's birthday. Amit told him that his birthday was in January, to which Luke responded "What! You're still 30! Oh man!" After some prying, Amit discovered that Luke thought that Father's Day was Amit's birthday (and apparently every dad's birthday?)
•Marinda was walking the kids back to the car after swim lessons when Luke told Marinda about something. Marinda then correct him on the piece of information he was claiming, and Luke said (with a great amount of feeling) "WHAT!?! Why was I not informed!?!" Marinda cracked up, and apologized for not writing him a memo.
•Luke said another funny thing while walking out of swim lessons. Completely randomly, he informed Marinda, completely in a normal voice like he was talking about the weather, "When the Earth gets destroyed, we should be in a space ship and have all our friends and family in it too. And a dog. Being in space would be the safest place to be when the planet blows up." Marinda told him that sounded like a good idea. But the question is, what dog will be chosen to be saved?!?!
•Luke listens better than we think he dose. Marinda was talking about the General Conference talk that they talked about in her class, and mentioned that it was about firefighters who saved all the pictures of Jesus from a church building that was burning. Then he jumped in "Oh yeah, and they put one picture in the fire truck!" (which is what he talked about next in the talk.) We were shocked, that talk was given during the spring General Conference in April! And it was on in the background while the kids were playing! We didn't even KNOW he was listening!
•Oh my gosh, Luke has been ridiculously awesome in his random stories. When we were talking about the firefighter story, he started telling how he was there and how he was telling everyone to get the pictures and being the organizer of the firefights efforts. The BEST story was what he said after Marinda told him about a story she heard in one of the her church classes. The teacher had told about when he was seven years old in Mexico, his grandmother had sent him to the shop around the corner to get some eggs. While he was there, a bunch of robbers burst into the store and robbed it! Luke then told us about how he was there, and how they kept the robbers from stealing all the food, and how Luke's job was to tell the people to run out of the store "while we handle it, because we didn't want anyone to get killed." And how they surrounded the store and BLASTED the bad guys! It was pretty epic and detailed, like he really was there!
•This weekend was Seafair, and the Blue Angles came to perform! Even though the weather was terrible, Stephanie still took her kids and Luke to the beach to see them practice! When asked about how he liked the Blue Angles he said, "Good. They were fast!" He and Liam also loved swimming so much that they had some trouble getting out of the water... At least now we know he can swim!
Luke and Jacy stories:
•We have been memorizing Moses 7:18 for scripture study this week, and Luke, with the amazing memory he has, got it down with in a few days. Imagine our surprise when we were helping Luke remember how it started the other night with the prompt "And the Lord called..." and Jacy pipped up "hiz peeple Zion!" Amit and Marinda just stared at each other in shock, and then congratulated themselves on being the best parents EVER! :P
•Luke and Jacy are now obsessed with Amit's new toy - a pull up bar! Luke has informed us that he needs to do "20 stretches a day, so then I'll be ready for kindergarten!" We're not sure what sort of boot camp kindergarten he thinks we're sending him to, but hey! He's excited about exercising so we're not going to deter him!
Marinda Stories:
•Yeah, no one cares about Marinda, but she hosted book club this week! It was Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker, which she picked specifically because it was fun, opposed to all the super heavy books her book club has read this year. They had a good girl's night and Marinda made blue berry cobbler with ice cream, bread and spinach dip, mini cherry turn overs (because the God-King is obsessed with little yummy pastries), Swedish fish (because Vininininine... the older princess hates fish), and Martinelli's (because Lightsong is always trying to get drunk but he can't, hence the wine you can drink all you want and never get drunk!) Marinda was feeling pretty clever! One an unrelated note, when she bought a new tub of ice cream for the cobbler, she had to take out the tub of ice cream that was already in the freezer because our freezer is just so freaking small! So what was she going to do with the four or so scoops that were left in the other tub. Well... Luke and Jacy had a very yummy morning snack that week!
•Remember how Marinda is awesome with graphic design? Yeah, neither did we, until we saw her latest creation! Kamie asked Marinda to make a birthday invitation for Emma, giving her the theme "princess" and when Marinda suggested basing it on Repunzele Kamie gave her the ok. With only that to guide her, Marinda made THIS in pages. Using nothing but shapes. Like, each eye is made up of five different shapes layered together. Yeah, you should be impressed, because we are, and Marinda is declaring it her best work.
The sunrise - looks healthy right? Go ahead, take a nice, deep breath!
It looks getto, but it surprisingly worked really well. If you're wondering, we ordered blinds this week. :P
They had the intro movie, the a gong sounded, the doors slide apart and THIS is what we were presented with!
Look how close we are!
Proof we were there!
Pizza bar!

Jacy really wants to play the harp, like, all the time. She even got her own stool!
•Jacy is finally getting sleep trained! We tell her that if she stays in bed the door will stay open, and if she gets out of bed the door will be shut (for, like, 30 seconds), and after a time or two she stays in bed!!!! Bed time is a whole lot better now.
