Yes Sir! We officially have a little Sunbeam in our family. What this means for you people out there not familiar with the super secret Mormon code, Luke has officially graduated from Nursery (18 month to 2 years olds) into Sunbeams (3 year olds) and if officially part of Primary! (The children's program for kids 3-11 years old.) So he's going to go to the big Sharing time and Singing time and then have a class with the other three year olds. No more toys, but they do still get a snack - which is good because with the time change church is right during lunch now.
So how did Luke do? Well, all week he was super excited! They had been going and visiting the big kid's class for the past few weeks, and we totally thought Luke was ready. I mean, when we dropped him off at preschool he was like "See Ya Mom!"
But NO! He had a melt down! A full out "NO!!!!!!!!!!IDON"TWANTTOGOTOPRIMARY!!!!!!!!" melt down. Marinda eventually got him into the room, crying, and curled up on her lap, but these Sunbeam teachers are veterans. It is a cute older couple who teaches them, and Brother Jay had these little toys that looked like Disney characters that if you squeezed them they lite up. Brilliant! (both definitions - hahahahaha)
That got Luke to stop crying, and Marinda slide him off her lap so they shared a chair (ok, one and a half, Marinda isn't a stick you know!) Then the Bishop got up and talked to the kids a bit about scriptures, and when he asked "what were the scriptures written on?" Luke shouted out "GOLD PLATES!" Marinda and his new Sunbeam teachers were kind of in stock. Then Luke's friend Benjamin started saying "GOLD PLATES!" too (because it is always more fun to yell when you got a friend) and we had to quite them down. Then the Bishop asked if they read their scriptures and Luke said in an almost offended voice "I read my scriptures!" To which Benjamin turned to look at him and said "I have scriptures!" and Luke responded "I have scriptures too!" and it turned into both of them saying "I have scriptures!" over and over again. Luke seemed to be doing ok, so Marinda snuck out. Luke turned to watch her go, but didn't freak.
After church Luke had a big smile and told us all about how he went to a class and got a special Sunbeam bag to put stuff into and M&Ms! Yay! Let's cross our fingers that next week he'll remember how awesome it was and just go happily. :)
Marinda got sick this week - not the normal coughing thing, just her normal nerve thing. And Amit thought it would be fun to stick his Microsoft band thing on her to track her heartbeat - which turned out to be around 80-90 bpm while she is lying in bed. We know the drill, and in a few days she was feeling better. Then Saturday afternoon came around and she woke up from her nap feeling funny, but took Luke to the grocery store anyway. They managed to get some candy and peanut butter crackers (priorities) before she suddenly felt the warning signs that she was going to collapse, so she bought the stuff quick and drove home.
Here is where is gets cute.
Luke, when Amit came out to the car to get him and Marinda, told Amit in a very serious voice "I think Mommy's lightheaded." Marinda didn't say anything to him except that she wasn't feeling good, so this was kind of cute. Then once Marinda got in bed he came in with his doctor's kit he got for Christmas and proceeded to give her a full run down. Don't worry, her blood pressure and heartbeat were just fine and he even gave her a shot! While doing so he said "This is going to hurt for a little bit, but then it will feel better." Then he gave her a super serious look and added "I've got bandaids." He then tried to find the "medicine" (cough drops) Amit keeps on his side of the bed, but Amit came in to take him to dinner.
But after dinner Luke came in again, this time with toys. He always does this. Whenever Marinda is sick, he never forgets her and brings his toys to the bedroom and plays on the bed.
This is so precious because it reminded Marinda of Luke's Dad, and why she first fell in love with him. When Marinda got sick in college and became bedridden, lots of her friends forgot about her. She spent a lot of time alone, streaming tv shows and just in general staring at the walls. Then Amit started calling her, inviting her to rent movies and go get coffee and not to worry because he had a car. He didn't forget her, and from that they became best friends and eventually fell in love. (Marinda still jokes whenever she's sick that she's just trying to be the girl he fell in love with.) So it is kind of super sweet that Luke is now doing the same thing.
That slacker Jacy, though, she doesn't even seem to notice Marinda isn't there! What? She's only 9 months? No excuses!
To end the night while Amit was helping Luke say his prayers he told Luke to ask that Mommy wouldn't be sick, to which Luke got his serious face on again and said "I think Mommy's already sick."
He's a good boy. He is three and sometimes crazy, but his core personality is amazing, and he will grow up to be an amazing man.
Oh, and Amit stuck the Microsoft band thing on Marinda again. 109 bpm is a normal resting heart rate, right? Marinda is kind of loving it. She always wished that she would turn purple or grow an extra limb when she would get sick so people would know, but she always would just "feel weak" with "pain." But now there is proof! Something not quite right is happening when Marinda gets sick! Muahahahahaha!!!!!!
Luke Stories:
- We've been trying to cut back on tv since coming home, and Luke is apparently not on board with this. Marinda was resting in bed when Luke came in and climbed up on the bed and told her that she needed to go turn on a movie for him. Marinda said for him to go tell Daddy, to which Luke replied "Daddy will say no - so you need to turn it on for me." Apparently he has figured out the whole divide and conquer of the parental units!
- Amit took Luke to a book store with him to use up a gift card he got sometime last year before it expired, and Luke happily picked out two books to take home. That is until he saw the toys. (Because you go to bookstores to buy toys, right?!) Amit said no, to which Luke then started lamenting "Mommy wants me to get this toy!"
-Luke had fun playing with his friend Tessa!
Jacy Stories:
- That girl is obsessed with her daddy. We know we've already touched on this, but she just loves following him around now that she can crawl full throttle!
- Jacy's blabbing has changed tones. It actually has tonal inflections like she is trying to imitate sounds now!
On one last note, we started to purge and pack! Amit got rid of his beloved Ninja Turtles trash can. It was a good run while it lasted, but now it's old and has sharp metal edges. It's time to move on, and Amit seems okay with it :0
