Yes you read that right! Last Sunday we saw a house on zillow that was in our price range, had a fenced backyard, looked ok quality wise, and was within a 30 min. bus commute from Amit's office. We sent them an email, and they called us back asking if we could go see it that day. It was the end of a long day at church (Amit and Marinda had helped out in nursery - how do those nursery workers do it?!? They have to be part super hero) and Luke really needed to take a nap. So I voted for Amit to go check it out by himself.
The results? Amit said it was great, that it was the type of house that he would bring his family home to. Other fun things - it has FOUR bedrooms, a master suite with it's own 3/4 bath and walk-in closet! AND it has a living room AND a huge family room/playroom! We emailed them back and said we would like an application. Marinda spent all day Monday filling both of them out (one for each of us) and they were processed on Tuesday.
We said we wanted to wait to sign anything until Marinda had seen it, which wouldn't be able to happen until Thursday. The people who owned the house said that another party was interested in signing and that they were going to give it to the party who was the best fit, which we interpreted as "we need to figure out if we want this or not." We said a prayer about what to do, and Marinda got a feeling that she needed to trust Amit. So we emailed them back, and by Wed. the lease was signed.
BAM! JUST LIKE THAT!
We went and saw the house on Thursday, and Marinda loved it. She loved the bright yellow color. She loved the higher quality of the carpets (honestly, comparing it to family student housing carpeting is kind of unfair), the massive amount of space, and the master bedroom. It almost seemed too much, but it was all real. This was really happening.
We get the house officially on the 10th, but we're not going to do the big move until the 17th. So all you friends in Seattle who are reading this, get ready to help us move!
For other things that happened this week, we did celebrate New Years, just East Coast New Year. Because we're old and lame and have a toddler. :P We couldn't find the ball drop on TV (probably because it was all delayed for west coast time), so we counted down from 10 and Amit dropped one of Luke's balls. We then drank Martinelli's while watching TV. Oh yeah, some hard core partiers over here!
The rest of the week could be summed up in two words: Purging and Packing. We've gotten rid of so much stuff that we were just holding on to for "Oh this might be useful, someday." When that someday realistically was if a zombie apocalypse happened and we needed a large pan to hit monsters with - because it sure wasn't a good enough quality for cooking.
The week before Amit and Marinda were talking about a plan for the upcoming week, and it went something like this:
Marinda: I think we need to keep our priorities in check here. Our first priority should be not to hurt each other's feelings during this move. Our second priority should be to pack up the house.
Amit: Marinda, we have all eternity to fix our relationship. But we have to be out of our apartment by the 27th!
On the whole, we're doing an ok job of meeting both demands. Having Marinda be pregnant and hormonal has made things, um, interesting (ask Amit sometimes about what happened when he suggested getting rid of the pizza stone) but Marinda is doing so much better than our last move at not being ridiculously attached to things. We've gone to Goodwill almost every day, but in our small apartment it still feels like we have too much stuff! Amit keeps saying that he loved how we lived in Hawaii - you know - with only the bare minimum of dishes and living necessities.
We still have two weeks - and we're sure that Marinda will be amazing and pack up everything while Amit is at work this week!
