Luke has really been into his Nursery Rhymes this week. He'll have us read him the same one literally 15 times in a row. Amit discovered that he wasn't just making us do this because he's a toddler, but was actually learning the rhymes! Now he can say the rhymes with us:
Amit: Wee Willie..
Luke: Winkie!
Amit: Runs through the...
Luke: Town!
Amit: Upstairs and...
Luke: Downstairs!
Amit: In his...
Luke: Nightgown!
And so on. He has also gotten into the habit that whenever he falls down to smile back at us really big and declare "Humpty Dumpty!"
Luke's climbing adventure last week may have given Marinda a heart attack, but that is NOTHING compared to what he was doing at the park this week. For playgroup we went to a near by park with an awesome sand box - which would have been great if Luke stayed in it. Don't get us wrong, he had a ball playing with trucks and moving around the sand for a good half hour (that's 23.7 toddler years) but soon his other friends showed up and they all wanted to go play on the playground - who's targeted age was somewhere between 8-22 years old. Needless to say, all the mom's got their work out in running around making sure that their toddlers didn't fall to their deaths. Luke particularly was having fun climbing on anything and everything made of sold metal and arranged in such a way that he was over five feet off the ground and still going by the time Marinda turned around and saw him. Let's just say that one of Luke's new favorite words now is "climbing."
We had quite a treat on Wednesday! Amit's aunt and cousin are in India and wanted to Skyp with us so Luke could see everyone. It was really fun and everyone was really excited to see Luke. Luke had had a hard morning so he mostly just sat on the couch confused at all the new faces, but when it was over Luke looked up at us and said "More Nani?" (Nani is what he calls Amit's cousin.)
Marinda had quite an adventure Thursday. She headed out to Costco and at the stoplight only a block away from her destination the car suddenly turned off. She would turn the key over and over and it would turn on for half a second and then turn off again. So she turned on her hazard lights, called her mom, called Firestone, called the tow truck, and then hung out while people would honk at her. She was feeling pretty alone until a random white BMW pulled up behind her and a guy got out and took flares out of his trunk to divert traffic. She was nervous at first at this stranger acting so different than the masses, but he was so nice when he asked her if she was ok. After a few minutes a cop arrived and the stranger left. She asked the officer who the stranger was, and the officer said he was a cop who was off duty. Wow - Marinda was really touched that on his day off he was still helping people in need. The officer then asked if Marinda wanted to move out of the road. What they did was Marinda put the car into neutral, and then the cop car then pushed her car across the street to a parking lot where she was then picked up by the tow truck. Just fyi, steering a moving car without any control over the speed is really fun and even more terrifying. Just fyi. It turned out the alternator was broken, which was a pretty easy fix and the car is running just fine now.
Lessons Learned #1: Sometimes people are nicer than you would hope for.
Lessons Learned #2: Get AAA.
Luke is doing great with the whole animal sounds thing. We can ask him about as many as ten different animals now and he'll tell you what they say. He took it to extremes though Saturday morning when Amit and Marinda were woken around 6:30am by Luke saying "awwwwOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" over and over again and then giggling hysterically. This lasted for about fifteen minutes before he decided it was time to get up and promptly let us know.
Tonight we had the missionaries and some friends over for dinner. Marinda had made Thai Peanut Noodles and we all thought they were quite tasty. Our friend's little girl who is just a few months younger than Luke wasn't convinced. She just sat there squishing the noodles between her fingers until Luke leaned over to her high chair and said "It's yummy." We thought it was really cute.
