Ghost Bulldozer Spotted Flying to Cali

This report of The Heb is bring brought to you from our satellite office in Scotts Valley, California.  Marinda and Luke are here for a few days so Marinda can play her harp at a friend's wedding.  It is her first time playing for a wedding and she is nervous - but as so many friends have pointed out "everyone is going to be looking at the bride, no one is going to be paying attention to you."  So far Luke has had fun playing with his cousins and exploring every corner of grandma's bedroom that he could possible make a mess in.

Getting to California was interesting.  First off, it took them an HOUR to get from their house to the freeway!  No idea why - there was no game or anything but getting to the freeway was slower than a husky pulling a rhino through peanut butter.  Marinda and Luke made it there with time to spare (like 20 min.) and were getting settled for their 8pm flight.  It was late and past Luke's bedtime, but he was being pretty good watching all the trucks and planes out the window.  Marinda also figured that as soon as they turned out the lights then he would fall asleep.

But it was not to be so!  The ladies in the row behind them mentioned to the stewardess that their seat didn't feel bolted in.  It turned out they were right, so we all had to get off the plane and go across the airport to get on another flight.  And how was Luke through all this?  HE WAS AN ANGEL!!!  We are so serious, he was the sweetest, best behaved little boy through all of this and just as Marinda predicted as soon as they turned out the light while taxiing to the runway he passed out.

This last Monday Marinda actually planned out a Family Home Evening!  When it was just the two of them they were really good at FHE every week - but with Luke going to bed at 6:30pm and, well, having a kid, they've gotten out of the habit.

Marinda began the lesson by asking Amit and Luke what Halloween meant to them.  Amit responded "CANDY!"  Luke said "PUMPKINS!" (with some help from Amit), and Marinda shared with them how Halloween to her is a celebration of conquering our fears.  Then Marinda had Amit read Joshua 1:9 about not being afraid because God is with us.  And then to drill home the point, they did an activity where Luke got to make a ghost!  It was great - Marinda drew the outline of a ghost on black paper, then put double sided tape inside it (the original idea said to use glue - why do all the TODDLER crafts involved either glue or paint!?!?!) and then we stuck cotton balls on the tape.  Then while Marinda cut out the ghost Amit helped Luke use his new Large Washable Crayons to decorate a piece of orange paper for the background.

How did this great plan of domestic creativity turn out?

Well, Luke was REALLY into grabbing EVERYTHING and THROWING it across the room.  Cotton balls, the paper, and especially the crayons.  Through Amit and Marinda's perseverance the ghost got made, but more importantly a funny family memory was made of our first family craft night.  :)
What?  I'm just expressing myself!
Our Master Piece!
The last event from this week that we would like to remember years from now is Luke's new obsession with trucks and cars and big machinery in general.  We haven't pushed this at all, but Luke loves to watch the construction across the street from our house.  Marinda walked into the living room this week to see him smashed against the sliding door watching the construction through a small break in the trees.  If he thought that was cool, what Marinda did on Thursday was even better.  She left early to walk him to school, and then they sat across the street and watched a bulldozer fill up a dump truck right in front of them!  It was a special Mommy-Son date.

Marinda got Luke three pumpkins to play with.
They entertained him for half an hour.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG HALF AN HOUR IS FOR A TODDLER!?!
Best spent $3 ever.

Luke's the one against the wall,
you know, with the green paint in his mouth.
He just really wants to internalize the medium.
Luke's amazing work of art is featured on
the opening wall to the Misra Gallery.
King of the Castle!
Luke's new favorite toys are these two foam camping mats.  He LOVES them!

This weekend was also General Conference!
Here is Luke watching the Prophet!
Marinda's latest project!
She formatted and then printed the four pictures (Office Depot for $1.19 total!)
Then she used double sided tape to stick them onto black
foam core she got from Target.
The whole project cost less than $5 and looks awesome!
