We moved to UW Family Student Housing Blakeley Village! This week has been all about packing. Some of our friends have been coming over to help us pack. Ashley helped Marinda pack up her clothes and other things in the bedroom, but Marinda was too Marinda-sick to be able to help. So what were they to do? "I needed to show Ashley which clothes were being packed up," Marinda said. "But I was too weak to stand. So Amit gave me a laser pointer to point at the clothes in the closet."
When the morning of the big move arrived, Amit went off to pick up the moving truck while Marinda scurried and fretted over everything with the help of her cane Gregory (yes, she named her cane). What did Luke do to help? You know, be cute and distracting. Since we've moved here Amit has helped 10-20 people either move in or out, so we figured we had a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't. The first step was getting help - good thing Amit is the Elder's Quorum Secretary with the email list!
Clearly we are loved, because seven guys showed up to help! Marinda had gotten some apple fritters for them in the morning, so maybe the bribery of sugar had something to do with it. The longest part wasn't the hulking stuff out the door, it was the arranging of the boxes in the truck. "It was like one big puzzle, except the pieces weren't actually made to go together," Amit remarked later that day. But they did it and soon we were riding off to our new home! A whopping 1 mile away!
Before you knew it all of our junk was in our new home, Luke was running around like this was the best day ever, and our movers were chowing down on pizza. Later that night as we contemplated what take out restaurant we were going to feed our family with, there was a knock on our door. Our down stairs neighbor had made us dinner! She didn't even ask, she just brought it over. It was the best gift anyone could have given us.
We're sad to leave our old home. So much had happened there. It was our first home after getting married. It was the home we brought Luke to from the hospital. It was where we had made friends and had game nights and been snowed into during Seattle's blizzards. Marinda's first garden with the flowers in her box that she had lovingly tended will be left behind. All of the firsts of our family happened within those walls. But like everything in life, we're progressing to the next stage of our family and our next home. We're sure that this one will be just as loved and will be the setting of so many more cherished memories to come.
