Translation: Paris, we drove right through you.
We're reporting in from Bear Lake, Idaho this week! We got here Friday and will be here with the bears for the next couple weeks. (For all potential burglars, we're having someone watch our house, so back off! And that person bears a striking resemblance to Chuck Norris, so back off++ . But seriously, we do.)
This week we concentrated on packing and preparing for being out of town for a while. In fact, we bearly did anything this week. Sometimes it was just plain unbearable trying to get ready for our trip. And we had a bear of a time saying goodbye to Durandal (more on that later).
So it is official, Amit's Jansport backback which he has had for 10 years has finally been given up on. It was a good backpack, it lived a good life, it was great at bearing the burdens placed in it, but now it's losing its hair (or threads are coming loose). So now he's using Marinda's....thing....as a backpack. We'll skip over how there was so much junk in the backback before he took over it, as per Marinda's request. But you know how you end up finding stuff in your fridge that has been there for a few months and has gotten really moldy? That's a good analogy for this. But we will forbear from going into more detail. "I needed that stuff in college!" Marinda was reported to have said. "A pair of chop-sticks? A bouncy ball?" replied a confused Amit. "Of course! Clearly you were never an engineer."
Amit and Marinda were sad to leave their bunny Durandal back in Seattle. The day they left he faithfully followed them around the house, begging to be taken along. But alas, it was not to be. Finally, to raise his spirits, they gave him his food and, like any good teenage boy, he promptly forgot all about them. We're a little worried about leaving him in charge of the house (if you receive an invitation from him for a party, please let us know). Thankfully he is being watched over in a non-creepy way.
Times at the lake have been fun. We've traveled to the marvelous Paris (Idaho), the city of love and (no traffic) lights! You hear about these one-road towns with no stops signs or traffic lights, and then you drive right through some without even really realizing it. One nice thing is that with just one road, its kinda hard to lose your bearings! But in all fairness, the people around here have been more than friendly and there is something appealing about being away from the big city and seeing wide open spaces. Especially being able to see stars at night. It would also be nice if we could see the mosquitos at night, so that we could punish them for stealing precious lifeblood. But alas, there's no such thing as free lunch. Unless you're a mosquito. Then everything is free!
Overall its been fun being at Bear Lake. All the men are growing out their beards. Sadly, Cara, Fred, John and Mary aren't here because of Cara's recent childbearing (see previous posts). But we've been trying to have fun. We went swimming yesterday and the water was actually bearable. However, Amit and Ben's newest bonding technique of splashing Marinda was not.
We're looking forward to another bear-tastic week at Bear Lake! For the 2 readers of this blog who aren't currently at the cabin with us, we hope you'll check in with the Hebdomadal next Sunday!
P.S. I tried to use as many words as possible that contained 'bear', sometimes even incorrectly. Can you find all 15 instances of these words?
