It looks like spring has arrived in Seattle! Saturday morning Marinda went outside to do a sun salutation because it was actually sunny and the kids wanted to join her. They actually did a pretty good job of following along with Marinda.
For FHE every first Monday of the month, we go to Menchies. So we went this past Monday, but we were also babysitting Zoe, the older girl from across the street. She came over to our house for dinner, and then squeezed in between our car seats to go to Menchies. She's the youngest in her family, and she seemed to relish playing older sister to Jacy. She buckled her in to her car seat, picked her up and carried her around, and practically put Jacy to bed by herself! She was great. So great, in fact, that her older brother, who is one of our babysitters now, was convinced that his little sister was trying to steal his babysitting job.
But he ended up keeping his babysitting job. On Friday, we went on a date while Noah babysat and helped Luke play Minecraft before bed. When we pitched this idea to Noah last week, he seemed to think this was the best job ever for a teenage boy. He even lent Luke four books on Minecraft because "he already knew everything in them." Of course Luke can't read them, but both he and Jacy can't stop looking at the pictures.
Marinda had a couple doctor's appointments this week and each of the kids got to go to one. On Monday we had our last ultrasound. Luke said he liked seeing his baby brother, and they even gave him a stuffed kitty cat as a present! Luke also loved the fact that he got to miss school.
Jacy got to go to Marinda's OB appointment on Friday because she had the day off from preschoool. She said the baby's heartbeat sounded like a train!
Speaking of missing school, Luke stayed home on Wednesday because his stomach hurt. He was actually in pain most of the night because of it. In the morning, he ate some food, but he said his stomach hurt so much he was too sick to walk and even sit up. So he stayed home (and his teacher was sick too, maybe with the same thing). But as little kids often do, he felt a little bit better and then wanted to play. But he still couldn't walk, so he army-crawled along the floor! Afterwards, we told him he could stay home but that he wouldn't be able to watch TV or play Minecraft. All of a sudden he was ready to go to school! But he was still too sick and had to stay home, and even took a 4 hour nap.
That night we did a special movie night with Luke too. He kept asking how many days it would be until his birthday, so Amit (using his awesome skills he learned from reading Siblings Without Rivalry), instead of answering the question, he asked if he was feeling sad because we kept talking about Jacy's birthday and planning it, and kept talking about the baby. He got really sad and nodded his head. So we decided to do something special just for Luke, and he picked doing a movie night. We ended up watching the first half of Empire Strikes Back. Luke really liked the Hoth parts and the asteroid field part. He didn't seem to care too much about the Yoda scenes, though he laughed at Yoda and R2-D2 fighting.
On Friday, Marinda got to learn what "Code Yellow" is at Target. Jacy found this adorable beach hat and beach purse that Marinda just couldn't help but buy. When she got on FaceTime to show Grandma and Aunt Ashleigh, Jacy ran away because she didn't want to do video chat. Marinda turned off Factime and laughed, and went to the next aisle to find her. But Jacy wasn't there. Or in the next aisle. Or the next. So all the employees had to go look for her after Code Yellow was announced. They did finally find Jacy - by the shoes.
At the grocery store on Saturday the kids said they wanted to try Sushi. Marinda has hesitant, but then they invoked the name of Daniel Tiger. "Don't you know we're supposed to try new foods mom? You gotta try new food 'cuz it might taste go-od". So we got it, and they ate some, but mostly didn't seem to love it. But they really tried it!
Today at church Marinda was having a hard time so we had to take her home early. Luke volunteered to "take care of Mommy". We decided to let him, and he did get Marinda ice cubes and goldfish. We're glad we have such a sweet boy.
Luke's latest thing is thinking that people are trying to read his mind. Not in a weird way, just in terms of people thinking they know what he's doing. He'll say stuff like "Jacy's trying to read my mind and make me lose" after she breaks something he's playing with.
Luke's also been complaining a lot about school, which we're assuming is normal. Thankfully, there are some things he likes. Art class seems to be something he likes. On Friday he said "I'm just going to art class and then coming straight home!"
Remember how Marinda sometimes says really ridiculous things late at night when she's pregnant? Well, good news everyone, that started up again! Friday night she was complaining about our bed because there's an indentation where she's been lying for the past few months. She went off on Amit because he didn't understand how hard it was sleeping in this trench, and how she was like a soldier in the trenches in World War I (yup, for real). The next night, she was having body image issues and was saying how she'd never compare to how our old neighbor looked when she was pregnant. This neighbor was also a vegetarian, so after ranting about her for a little bit, Marinda took a break for a minute, then suddenly exclaimed while bursting into tears "I can't be a vegetarian!"
That's it for this week, so we'll end with some of Jacy's preschool artwork and a beautiful picture from our house that reminds us of why we love the Pacific Northwest :)
