This week Amit was gone in sunny Tucson for a planetary science conference. It was great weather, with highs in the 80's and lows in the upper 50's/high 60's, but of course since the conference schedule was jam-packed he spent most of his time inside. He gave a talk, in which he was supposed to talk about his dissertation (aka the past 5 years of research) in 7 minutes. Needless to say, he wasn't able to fit everything in. Other than that the trip was okay - he got some mildly okay resort food and took advantage of having a ton of time and got a bunch of work done.

UGH! Why didn't Marinda get a babysitter for Luke and go with him!?!? |
Luke has had an on and off again time dealing with Amit being gone. Sometimes he acts like it is the end of the world, sometimes it is almost like he's forgotten that Amit isn't coming home at the end of the day. The funniest flip flop is right before we do FaceTime with Amit. Luke will act all Greek tragedy like about Amit being gone - but as soon as he sees Amit he goes off and plays like nothing was ever wrong without even really acknowledging him. We're guessing that as soon as he sees Amit he assumes everything is fine again, so why make a big deal? Maybe? The last couple of times he was very silly and would say "That's not Daddy - that's Daday!" (Dady is what we call Amit's older brother Anup.)

So other than these few moments were Amit still got to be present in Marinda and Luke's lives, we know you're all wondering if the two of them made it to the end of the week. And we can say YES! Sunday's disaster wasn't an omen of what was to come! A HUGE part of that has to do with Marinda having amazing friends who really stepped up and fed Marinda and Luke dinner EVERY SINGLE NIGHT that Amit was gone. Marinda originally felt weird asking for people to feed them. She tried to explain to Amit that you just don't invite yourself over for dinner, and Amit said "I'm not saying you should
invite yourself over, I'm saying you should just show up with a salad at their door around dinner time and ask if they'll feed you!" Marinda didn't end up following this brilliant plan, but she did finally send out a text asking for help - and didn't have to make dinner once that week - which was one of the main reasons she survived so well.
Since his daddy has been back Luke has been sure to tell him how happy he is! Luke was said on multiple occasions "so happy daddy came back from Arizona!" Marinda is more than a little happy as well - and proceeded to crash all day on Saturday. Welcome home Amit!
Other things that happened this week is the weather suddenly turned into a frozen vortex of death where it was physically painful to feel the air outside, Marinda's baby belly popped out (what?! You want a picture?! Sure... we totally remembered to take one...) and Marinda had another ultrasound and doctor's appointment. The baby is just fine, they just weren't able to see everything the first time and needed to go in again. Marinda and Amit were just the tiniest worried that maybe Jacy would have become a boy... but nope! She's still a girl! She is also a very healthy weight in the 40% and so cute and wiggly and squiggly. Marinda isn't doing quite so well - she hasn't gained
any weight the last month - so she is still a couple of ounces below where she was 20 weeks ago. (Oh yeah, we're at 20 weeks! Half way there! Woo!) Marinda's doctor isn't worried yet, but Marinda is instructed to eat - which you think sounds great until you find out that Marinda's stomach is the sassiest creature alive.
On a fun note, Marinda and Luke went swimming up at the Lynnwood Rec Center this week with playgroup and Luke had a ball! Litereally, he found a ball to play with and spent about half the time chasing it around the water play area - and when he wasn't dragging Marinda up and down the water slide a thousand times. It was really fun and we can't wait to take Daddy there!
